Tell me about // Hate the Swift sport

Thanks for all the help guys, have signed up at two owners clubs also :) I'm going to have to test drive a 12 plate one to convince myself I shouldn't wait a little longer and get one of those instead :)

Right now, the older one is far more in my budget. I guess setting a few hundred aside for the part of the abs pump failing might be a good idea? I'm not sure how common this is, however.

It's been know to fail on a few people's cars on the owners club including mine, I was lucky and got it done under warranty but it's a bill closer to £1k or was. But mine is a 56 plate, there was a small face lift in 2008 I think, so they may have addressed the issue. It's not a massive wide spread problem but it does happen, My car is only on 28k miles also.

Tbh if you get into that newer car you will want one of those lol, as they addressed some of the things owners moaned about. Like it having a 6th gear, built in Bluetooth with iPod connection etc, a little more power and it even has cruise control.

There is a rumour and I will state rumour in some of the Fiat forums that the new Swift could be one of the first cars to have the Fiat/Alfa multi-air engine used under licence shortly.

I have yet to find a link to it but Suzuki have pretty much upset VW buy committing to buy the 1.3/1.6JTDm for Fiat.

Apparently their technical sharing agreement has fallen apart over this and they now seek a divorce.

Might have effect on future values if true.

The pre-facelift has a Toyota derived engine. I imagine the new car has a similar engine.

I've got an 08 SSS. It's a fantastic car, bullet proof really, engine wise. Don't listen to all the cack about having to run it on 99RON, it's fine on any normal unleaded. It desperately needs 6th gear for the motorway as 5th is only 500rpm lower than 4th. The seats are mega comfy as long as you're not fat and the gear change is a dream. I actually sometimes prefer it around town to the 530d for fun and sheer grip. The back will step out if you are over keen but this leans more to 4 wheel drifts than mega oversteer. Interior is typical Japanese, in fact, it even has the same indicator and wiper stalks as my parents old K reg Toyota Carina. They are more susceptible to rattles and creaks in the SSS due to the super stiff suspension.

Other than that, buy one, you won't regret it unless you spend your life on the motorway :)

Eew, best get one quick then ;) I assume the engine is currently suzuki made?

Yeah you could be right, lol. However Fiat strongly believe the engine design will be as important as the common rail diesel engine they invented and now regret selling to Bosch.

Multi-air this time will only be available under strict licensing agreements. Be interesting to see if it will change petrol engines in the way that Common rail changed diesels.

Slight hijack, but does anyone have any experience of the 1.3 or 1.5 engines? I'm looking at an 05 plate onwards and it'll mainly be used around town.

I used to own the 1.3, nice enough and slightly better mpg. Decent kit for price but no air con, The 1.5 has the air con and keyless entry from memory.

Thanks. Any common problems I should look out for? Is it chain or belt driven, as I'm finding different answers atm.

Then you want a 1.5 or the Sport if you can stretch. Auto air con. The 1.3 never came with it. There isn't much of a options list over at Suzuki :p they just make a lot of the same cars with different colours and the dealers do a few special editions :)

I'd like the Sport version, but it'll be for the wife so her main wants is the 'right colour' as well as air-con. It'll largely be wasted on her anways since the majority of the journeys are sub 5 miles, so I'm just after a well built reliable little car.

The Yaris is also on the list.

She didn't want a Fiesta as our neighbour had one, and the Polo is too boring apparently.

To the guys who have one, I'm now looking at a 62 plate ex demonstrator.

I was looking at used, but the appeal of a warranty from suzuki and the fact that I will now be doing a few trips to Minehead due to my nans health taking a hideous dive thanks to the useless doctors she had means I will be seeing a lot more of the m5 than I'd wish for.

Is there anything different I need to look at on the 12 plate cars? I believe they are better on fuel than the prior models and cheaper to tax?

I was also looking at the ds3's but they are too expensive.
