So I've decided to upgrade my 1.6 308 to something a bit sleaker. Really liking the look of the VW and enjoyed driving my Dads 2.0GT TDI when he had it and I'm guessing that it has a similar engine. I'm not really bothered about Petrol or Diesel but I sometimes do go on long journeys for work. Something comfortable with a few gadgets that's gonna go a bit when I put the foot down.

What's out there for 15k tops 2-3 years old?

Should be a good number of Sciroccos around for that. If you're interested, next months EVO magazine will have a buyers guide in it on the R and 2.0 TSI.

Hi there

Good looking cars, engines are good and they are quite capable with good grippy suspension setup. Downsides is they are a bit dull and lifeless in the handling stakes, typical vag/Audi handling, but solid confident inspiring cars.

I guess the other alternatives are:
VW Golf
Audi A3
BMW 120d, 123d, 120i, 130i (not sure if the coupes are cheap enough - 125i, 135i etc?)
BMW 3.... blah blah....

Totally agree, was a passenger and got a short drive of one the other week. Felt really well built and solid. Not so sure about the looks as a coupe to me it still felt a little less sleek and neat than the rivals.

The engine felt solid and powerful but to me lacked any conviction when pushed. Same with the handling, grippy and stable but didn't have the feel that would make me confident to throw it at speed into a corner.

I would rate it is a safe, fast, solid coupe that ticked all the boxes other than excite me. A coupe to me needs to be exciting.

I'd sooner get a Mk 6 Golf GTI/GTD than a scirocco if you're going down the VW route

Thing is I really like the Golf to drive but I've not really loved the look since the MK4 but I wouldn't be disappointed if I ended up with one.

In regards to Petrol and Diesel whats the difference I'm gonna see in performance/economy in the Scirocco?

As for the 370Z just a bit flashy for me and I imagine a little too thirsty.

TBH I agree you can get something better. We looked at the Scirrocco and a TT and enjoyed them when the Mrs was looking for something sporty. We then drove a 350z and were entirely blown away comparitively. Go for the 370z or even a decent 350z and save some cash.

Why get a dressed up golf when you can have something thatll really make you smile :).

370z > Scirocco

Whilst the 370Z is a fantastic car. I'm not sure a 2 seater 3.7 V6 is this guys cup of tea.

He blatz wants some VAG swag. Although I'd be tempting to go for a Mk6 Golf GTI over the Scirocco as it is the same yet cheaper. Plus you can have it in 5 door. More doors more whores etc.

Other than looks, the Scirocco is every bit as boring as a golf

However, the guy clearly didnt want a 370z either so probably time to stop suggesting that
