I am going to France on Saturday and there will be no wifi where we are staying.

I am thinking about getting a Mifi device (Huawei E586) and a data sim

For UK you can get '3 Mobile Broadband Ready to Go 3GB Preloaded Data Sim for 3G Mobile Devices' for £11

Are data sims for other countries sold like this?

The only thing I can find is this (£45 for 500mb!!!!!)

I've always wanted an answer for this and always fail to ask before I go on holiday.
This August I'm going to Malta and common sense says I should be able to walk into a Malta Phone shop and buy a PAYG sim for a month that will go straight into my S3.
Is this possible?
Could I have done this in Italy, Poland, Egypt and other countries?
Or can't it be done?

Perhaps this should be in the Mobile Forums!

Why can't you tether your smartphone if you're on 3 already?

3 have Europass, it costs a fiver a day but gives you all you can eat data. I used it in Belgium for a weekend and calculated I'd saved a data usage bill of over £300!

All major UK networks do bolt ons for overseas data, you just have to add it.

Or buy a local sim, as listed here

How can you get a bolt on for a 3 3G data card which you buy from Amazon for £11?

I'm looking for one with no contract. i.e comes preloaded with 1gb or whatever and can just be used and binned

My aunty bought a card in Portugal for about £10 and it lasted an hour or so! No tariff for £1/1mb etc please

'200Mb of internet traffic, valid for one month, for €10/£7.81.' Jesus, does France have no internet infrastructure? 3 is £11 for 3000mb, which last 3 months.

When I was in America 4 years ago practically everywhere I went there was free wifi!

Yes. Vodafone Malta have a stall at the airport, dead opposite you as you've walked through the door from baggage reclaim to where the hire car desks are. Got a PAYG Microsim from them, can't remember what it was but was something like €30 for 3GB that lasts 30days. Popped it in my iPad and was fine.

Good signal over on Gozo too :).

You'll find that the UK has some of the best mobile and data prices in Europe as the market is quite competitive in the UK.

Over in CZ the best prepaid card is probably Vodafone which is ~£8.60 for 500mb, not too bad but not great.

£8 per MB in Turkey on my phone a few years ago

That would be a blow to the old wallet if watching a full HD (16gb) film... £128,000

Nothing in France cheap then I take it?

Christ none of this compares to my trip to Sri Lanka, 10p per 100mb,valid for one day only though.
Was hspda too!

Thanks for that

Vodafone Eurotraveller is the best!

Just had a look, seems like a good option if you've got a decent data package to start with. 500mb won't last that long if you're tethering for a week :)

Although OP would need a new Vodafone contract :p

Ok, not really relevant for France but rented a Mifi device when I visited Japan. Cost around £5 a day for 2 weeks of unlimited 4G data, really good deal compared to the UK and included free delivery to a post office and return at the end.

Real shame you can't get this in every country as it's a great service.
