Loft beds ... any good for adults?

I'm going to be moving into a tiny room, barely enough space for my computer desk and other crap. I was thinking about a loft bed (I think that's what you call them) where the bottom is empty for desk space.

Does anyone use one of these and is it safe for an adult (about 73kg). Is it easy to fall off? Where can I get a decent one for less than £200?

Do you mean a cabin bed?

[edit]Seems either is true. Never heard it called a loft bed before.

I wouldn't want to sleep on one indefinitely.

Wouldn't have a problem sleeping in one if I had the mental age of a 9 year old.

Imagine it would get tiresome quickly.

Not sure what the proper term is but its basically a bunk bed, but the bottom section is empty, to be used for something like a desk.

Either I get one of these things or I have to buy a new and signficantly smaller computer desk and probably a smaller chair too. I don't mind if it's not too comfortable, so long as it's safe and I won't kill myself by falling off.

They are pretty hard to fall out of, I've had one for at least 10 years and I've never fallen out of it.

I've always had a small bedroom, so no real room for a normal bed + computer and stuff.

The only annoying thing is climbing a ladder every morning and night.

In a practical sense of small living then yes but realistically they're annoying to get up and down from and you could never take a girl home to one

This immediately sprang to mind...

bah, single bed. no thanks. not had to use one of them for many years.

not much room when 'entertaining' ;)

we have a superkingsize at the moment and its still not big enough. when we were on honeymoon all the beds were 2 double beds pushed together. you could have an orgy on one of those! :)

Do you normally fall off your current bed? Does being higher up make you more likely to fall off? Presumably it must be very annoying in the penthouse on a tall block of flats as you'd be falling out of bed all the time :p
In general they have something to stop you just rolling off anyway...

The only thing is headroom, at both the bottom and top, obviously better in a victorian style house etc as you can get a taller one and not hit your head on the ceiling

edit: to be fair, if you were really high up, say in space, you probably would be more likely to fall out of bed...

i think a loft bed literally out you a couple of feet away from the roof and a cabin bed is the mid sized version. got one for my daughter from Ikea - pretty good quality and has bars to stop you falling out - but then she is 7

Or just a regular sofa bed...

Sofa facing desk during the day for film watching then fold out double bed for the making of love in the evening!

What's the actual dimensions of the room?

EDIT:

Nice guy fail:

I was hoping for some automated response bot that would give me stupid responses!

when i was a nipper i had a bunkbed. i remember waking up on the floor one morning so i must have fallen out (i slept in the top bunk). man i wish i could sleep that deeply still!

If you could, the thing to do is get scaffolding and build a mezzanine big enough for a double bed. My mate did it in his spare room which was barely big enough for a bed. it worked very well. Was easy enough to climb in and out of without a ladder too.

Perhaps design your own foldup bed that can double as a desk? Seen a few online these days and most come with information re the build and materials. Have a look, it could be a fun project.

Personally after sleeping in bunk beds for 18 years I can not think of anything more tedious/annoying than having a loft/cabin bed with the usual small desks that come with them.
