My brother has a max budget of £300 want's to be able to play on ultra in most games at 1080p and not need to worry.

I think the Gigabyte card's offer the best cooling with the windforce3 but perhaps not the best value. Ideally 60FPS in BF3. I have a £300 7970 which had a cheap nasty cooler on it so I ended up spending another £50 on the Accelero to cool it. I think a good 7950 or a high end 7870 is the best way forward for my brother.

The case is a Coolermaster Silencio 550 with a few extra fans, airflow is not great and his current card (my old 8800GTX) just died again, green screen which means I would need to bake it in the oven and it would just die again anyway as temps get to 89C on that card and it causes the microfissures, it idles at 60C it's just a hot old card XFX too so it's a piece of junk.

Awh damn no free games, I also like the look of the Gigabyte Windforce one, with the 900Mhz stock clocks, it's between that and the HIS and thte Gigabyte look's more promising. :( I prefer the cooler on the Gigabyte, but the HIS is kind of a blower card though I don't see how it is without a closed shroud lol.

The gigabyte windforce is an awesome card. I have the GTX670 3x one, get about 160fps in Black Ops II on max settings. Cost me £298 from ****** (ex-display but you can pick them up for not much more)

I also play F1 2012 in 5760x1080 (three screens) using nvidia surround and can get approx 120fps using high settings.

Haven't tested framerates in BF3 yet, only just installed it yesterday. The card is completely silent, is running at 45 degrees now but even when stressed out in benchmarks never goes higher than 59 degrees and is still silent. That's overclocked as high as it would go as well (increased the memory by 600mhz, core by an additional 200mhz).

As for ATI, my friend has a Radeon 7950 which he is very happy with. Not quite the same performance, but definately good value.

670 is just out of his price range I'm afraid, so I think 7950 it is. :) I can get the Windforce for the same price as the HIS is currently so will let my brother choose between them. :) Thanks for the help!

For me it's hands down the Gigabyte because it has 12 more Solid State capacitors and three more chokes with redesigned PCB. :) Also the fans will be great.

Yeah, I wish that the voltage wasn't locked so I could overclock mine more. Even with max voltage, max power usage I still don't get higher than 59 degrees. I feel I could overclock even higher if I could up the volts some more :).

I don't think the voltage is locked on the 7950? I think only on the 7970...maybe on your 670 also. I think the Gigabyte is a better card, but if it's out of stock the HIS is great too.
