MPs call for '32% salary increase'

I was always supprised how much little they were paid,

give them 90k a year, give them reasonable expences.

any sniff of scamming sack them...

Do MP's have a special pension scheme? It is not only the salary that matters but all other benefits.

Yes they have a rather good final salary pension scheme.

MPs' pensions
A funded final salary scheme
Normal retirement age is 65, minimum age is 55
MPs can contribute either 11.9%, 7.9% or 5.9% of their £65,738-a-year salary
Payments are now increased in line with the consumer prices index
Accrual is capped at two-thirds of an MP's final salary
The coalition agreement included a commitment to consult with the Ipsa on "how to move away from the general final salary pension system".
Bbc. Guardian have something on it too. Google is your friend and all that you lazy so and so.

Dammit. Beaten.

Or how about people posting threads they wish to discuss actually include the source?

I mean would you want people joining the army solely for the money? Or because they feel a duty to SERVE?

Theres a word for the former: mercenary. A self-server.

I don't see the problem with this. I like the idea of the people in charge of my country to be well paid and well educated. For some reason people see this as a bad thing out of jealousy. So there are some things the Americans do better than us.

Pay them national minimum wage. Nothing more, if the people have to have austerity forced on their hands because of the banks and government, why should those incompetent morons deserve any better!

If you want parliament to be exclusively the domain of the rich again then this is a very good idea...

So you'd punish all the mps including new ones not even involved in the debacle of the last government for the failings of one party? Not the Tory's fault they were left in this mess.

How is it not the domain of the rich already?

You kind of have a point here but what you propose wont make it any better as RDM has pointed out.

I don't look at it like punishing, It's a case, you are here to do a job, not to get rich or famous, it's a job ffs, much like any other.
Why oh why do MP's seem to think they are better?
In times like these, We need human beings in charge, people that live on this side of the street. Not idiotic morons that have grown up believing they can do what they want and just get away with it!
Mp's sole purpose in the houses of parliament is to do what the people want.
Not to have their own agenda's, Not to do as they please.

Am I wrong?

Yet your proposal to make this happen is to pay minimum wage so it becomes completely unaffordable to pretty much anyone who doesn't have a fair amount of wealth behind them? Can you not see the disconnect here?

Most MPs aren't famous, he'll most people probably couldn't tell you who their MP was without googling it.

heard this on radio Manchester today, MPs earn £66k a year on average as it stands. Asif thats not enough.

I understand your frustration with the demographic of those wielding the power being completely unrepresentative of the population but we were merely pointing out that dropping the salary to minimum wage would make it worse not better although i suspect you wasnt being entirely serious and more venting frustration with that comment.

People of enough intelligence to MP's who do not have a large personal wealth will not work for nothing, it's not how the world works.

Barry the plumber will not down tools and go and work for a fraction of what he currently earns out of the goodness of his heart, that's why it will go back to only attracting the wealthy and the loony's.

VOTE WHIG!

I'm not venting, usually politics especially concerning this country gets me raging

My point is, you shouldn't be rewarded until after the fact.

They need to fix this country. They are not fixing this country.

Thousands of people are being forced out of work. Thousands of people are on welfare. They are not doing enough to fix it.

If the country was suddenly fixed, and everything rolled back to how things were 20-30 years ago, more people working, England having proper industry etc etc, then yeah i would hold my hand up and say yeah take a rise!

Look at it in the real world, If you run a company into the red and damn near bankrupt it, you're not going to be rewarded are you?
