Hello guys, I have a spare £100 to spend, looking to spend it on my PC.

Any recommendations that would improve it currently?

Thanks

Is there a reason to go for the £100 Plextor over the £80 competitors (some of which, as far as I can see, have faster read/write speeds), or are you just matching to the budget?

(Genuine question, I know the benefits of an SSD but I'm not particularly clued up on the differences between them)

Better built, stable, faster.......

Plextor are intel's oem for ssd's. Intel SSD's are good quality.

Other names such as corsair and san disk use the sandforce driver which is unreliable. OCZ also use this driver..

The ones that don't are Intel, plextor, crucial and Samsung.

As for this week I can add another £10 (Just)

If I wait until next Thursday (Paid Weekly) I can add in an extra £70, totaling £170 (Free Shipping). I would like to put in more but the middle Thursday in a month for me is a little restricting on Cash.

The Plextor SSD has a firmware upgrade that takes it from;
- Maximum Read: 540MB/sec
- Maximum Write: 330MB/sec
To;
- Maximum Read: 540MB/sec
- Maximum Write: 470MB/sec

If I understand this correctly?

Looks like a good buy mate!M I'd got for a min of 120gb, but 256 if you can push it!

I think the OCZ Vertex 4 has similar speeds once the firmware is upgraded, hitting low/mid 580/590mb/sec

Actually, irrespective of the controller, OCZ has been known for quality issues. Currently, I am using Intel 520 ( sandforce based ssd) its working good for me
