Is there a set amount of time a dealer must warranty a 2nd hand car for by law?
Like the law that states all electronics must come with a 24month warranty.

No - most dealer warranties arent worth the paper they are written on anyway.

The sale of goods act will protect you from serious faults anyway - there are associated timescales with the burden of proof though

Yes and no. It depends on what you can reasonably expect of the car you are buying.

For example, a 4 year old £15k used car which has a catastrophic engine failure 1 week after buying it should be repaired/replaced/etc.

A 150k mile £500 snotter which has a wheel bearing fail after a month, not so much.

Basically, the SOGA applies.

What Disco Boy says.

This does not apply in the UK.
Read the SOGA to find out what you are entitled to. It's basically 6 months where retailer has to prove it wasn't a manufacturing defect, 6 years where you have to prove it was a manufacturing defect.
