New Car Time - 15k - Scirocco?

Are they really that bad - only thought of them because they are a couple of miles away.

I'm from Rochdale where they started and know a few people who used to work for them so I've heard from the inside how bad they are. Their business model is to pick up cars from auction/lease companies/webuyanycar.com tart them up slightly, add a few grand to the price and then try and sell them on expensive hpi deals over a long period.

Ah OK, cant help you then!

Surely there are plenty of proper car dealers in leeds so you dont need to resort to carcraft? Styner VW Leeds have several Golf GT 2.0 140s in stock for ~16k

That's more than I bought my 59 reg mk6 2.0 GTI for, also from a VW dealer.

Bit of an update here guys.

Went and test drove the 1.4TSi Scirocco and I must say I was not expecting it to be so bloomin' quick. 160bhp and it just goes. I must say the interior of the car is nicer than I thought and has all the gadgets that I wanted. SatNav and USB/iPhone connect ability. I am really tempted as the insurance of it is over £100 cheaper than I'm currently paying per year on my Pug. Food for thought. I test drove a 2.0GT TDI 140 Golf whilst I was there also. It wasn't as quick as the Scirocco but was obviously more spacious and practical inside. But screw that I want the 1.4 TSI :D

Does anyone know if the interior of recently made Sciroccos is based on the MKV or MKVI Golfs?

If it's the MKV then it would seem like it's well overdue for a refresh.

**Update Number 2**

A month on and I'm still looking, either so far the price has been wrong or the spec hasn't been as good as I'd have wanted.

Yesterday I did however stumble upon a Octavia VRS. I've never even thought of a Skoda but this really took my eye. I took it for a spin and the 2.0T engine is really nippy for a car of this size. It's consumption isn't terrible for that size of a car and it's pretty basic inside but has what I wanted. Comfortable seats, a nice simple dash with Bluetooth and MP3 etc. It also has cruise control which would be a massive advantage around my area with all the variable speed limits. I have read a few reviews online and they all point towards good.

The best thing is probably the price. From what I've seen its roughly the same to get this or a 2 year 'OLDER' Golf of similar spec. I might just take the plunge on this.

Im not sure i get the hatred for them. I got a car for my Dad through them about 3/4 years ago, an Astra Sport 2.0T on a 55 plate. It was up for £7k which was a a good bit less than most other places had this model for at the time. They also delivered it to the nearest City to us for next to nothing. Now if we had entered into one of their ludicrous finance schemes it would probably have cost £18k or something, but as long as you know to avoid this like the plague as we did its not as issue. Paid them £7k there and then and drove the car away. To this day it hasnt missed a beat and my dad is still really happy with it. Now maybe the choice of car wouldnt be to everyones taste but as a deal i think it was pretty good. Maybe we were just lucky though.

If you enter into one of their schemes then you probably have some serious issues but if you avoid them then i think its ok. I think maybe they price a bit lower to get people in and then hit them with the finance options.

I've never test driven one but always admired the Octavia VRS in its latest facelift guise. It's definitely on the list for my next car as value for money they look spot on. Was it a DSG auto if it had Bluetooth? Other nice options on these include Maxidot which is a better multi function display between the dials and xenons.

I was looking at Golfs ended up getting the vRS Octavia, you get a facelift one for a lot less than a Mk6 GTI, plus it has a much more practical boot.

The boot was amazingly big, I can't wait to get one, think of the dead bodies :D

It's a fantastic car, I just bought one on Sunday (pre fl however).

The boot space was one bit that attracted me to it, it's bigger than my previous passats and also I play golf so it's required :p

Edit: did u go petrol or diesel?
