Brand new build as of yesterday...all set up fine...the gf has been playing the sims and the monitor has just gone off completly. Opened case made sure everything was connected etc and tried again and it works...half hour later the same happens again.

Any ideas??

Edit chance a mod could change the title of this to "New build PC keeps cutting out" as im pretty sure now it is not the monitor, cheers :)

The monitor is not new we have had that a while...it would not come back on even after powering the computer down and back on until i checked all the cables etc

Come down this morning and turned it on and its just working, without having to mess about inside...hmm can see this annoying me if it keeps going haha

monitor connections?

I spent like 3-4 hours tearing apart my PC to find out why there was no signal on monitor, to find out that DVI cable had been disloged from monitor slot.

Tried that, seems to be doing fine so far, not gone off yet, have updated drivers as well in case it was that.

Gonna let the gf back on Sims in a bit, so if it goes again, im blaming her crappy game :P

hmm its just gone off while i was playing sleeping dogs...it seems like the pc just loses power, but the psu / fans are all still working...powering the computer off and back on has solved this straight away this time, any ideas?

Good excuse for a new monitor :)

The monitor is only a couple of months old...have now realised its not the monitor seems like a power problem...waiting for windows to install all its updates and to turn off and am going to make sure everything is properly plugged in etc :(

OK pc has been on for hours now with no problems, no games have been played though.

Took everything out of the case and put it back in, making sure the mobo wasnt screwed in too tight, and that all spacers were in ( managed to miss one :/ ) and that all cables are firmly plugged in.

If it goes again when gaming im going to have to run tests on everything and try and pin it down to something and try and get it RMAd :(

If you put a Wattage tester on the PC Plug you can see if it drops when the monitor turns off/loses signal. This would mean its the PC definitely, as its no longer running the game the GPU would use less power.

If it goes off and the wattage does not drop, then its monitor!

Or just hook up a different monitor/TV for now.

It sounds like a load issue - either the GPU or the PSU (although potentially CPU/RAM/Mobo) is giving out under high load. Try doing some stress tests.

If it's fine under a CPU-only stress test then it's the GPU. If it crashes under any stress test it's probably PSU but potentially one of CPU/motherboard/RAM combo.

Managed a couple of hours gaming this morning with no problems so if it goes again ill run some cpu tests atc and see what it might be...brand new things shouldnt break...its annoying :( lol

sigh, its just gone again while the missus was playing.

Are there any particular tests i should be running?

She was playing sims 3 with spotify playing in the background, without warning the screen goes black, the sound just hangs, not stuttering just a constant noise, but all the fans etc still work so its not like the psu cuts out completly otherwise everything would go off?

If someone can link me to some decent stress tests that would be helpful, dont like having spent so much money on a gaming machine to not be able to play games on it :(

Have ran OCCT PSU test this morning for an hour and everything was fine, trying the GPU test now see if that comes back with anything :(

GPU test hasnt caused a crash either...sigh :(
