I'm after a Motherboard for an i7 930 cpu, needs to house 6gb of Corsair XMS 1600 DDR3 RAM and can't be by Gigabyte...

What's teh cheapest out there?

I'm gonna stamp on this motherboard soon. So annoying, has a horrible cpu coil electrical whine coming thru the speakers.

Just had a look at your other thread.

It's really odd that I've not had any of the problems that people have reported aside from the afore mentioned sata speeds.

Have you done the following stuff.
Insulated the mobo standoffs from the mobo.
Tested your psu, could be dirty power.

I guess it would make sense to try a different psu first as that'd be easier than trying a new motherboard.

I'm not sure about the motherboard stand offs, I'd always assumed they are quality given the case being quite pricey at the time ... it's an obsidian 800D

Insulating the mobo from the case is always a good idea.
That's why they give you little cardboard type washers which prevent any minor shorting from outside the mount points.

turn off c1e in the bios and disconnect the cases front panel usb headers from the mb and see if the noise stops

nearly all x58 boards suffer from this inc asus

no noise from z68/z77 gigabyte/asus though

I don't remember any washers :/

I've turned off c1e in the bios a long time ago. Will try the usb front panel thing but I'm not confident it will make a difference.

i tried different psu's/gpu's and a xonar dx soundcard aand none of them fixed the noise issue

thats on a ud5 x58 and an asus p6x58d

only thing that fixed it was a z68 motherboard, totally silent

an intel i7 930 wouldn't work on a z68 mobo though?

no its different im just saying, out of 3 x58 boards and 3 920's they all made this motherboard squeal noise

if you really wanted to fix it it would mean a sandy/ivy bridge cpu and z68/77 mb

yeah this is what I'm thinking, although gigabyte apparantly have a fix for the problem, any idea how long their RMA turn around is ?
