**ASUS ARES2 AVAILABLE FIRST FROM OcUK (NOW IN STOCK)!!**

The heatsink and fans only cool the VRM and Memory. The water blocks are on the GPU cores.

Yeah that's what I meant. the rad isn't cooling the entire card just the GPU's.

If you look at the rad to fan size ratio its ~ twice as thick as the rad on a Kuhler 620 and people mod them to GPU cool only all sorts of cards so rad should be OK with a pair of Tahitis

*EDIT*

Case in point a Kuhler 620 will easily cool a GTX580 and they put out more heat than a HD7970, so a rad almost twice as thick and better fans should suffice for a pair of GPU's that each put out less heat than a GTX580 (in theory anyway).

1) More electricity bill

2) Power supply probably died soon

3) Too expensive

4) 8 Pack probably will buy it and break the world record again!

1 & 2: for those of us already running dual high end cards (4 x8pin, 2x8pin +2x6pin) it might actually mean less power. Especially if zero core works properly.

The cost is hard to justify, but how much would it cost to buy two top 7970s, buy waterblocks for them, and convert your system to water cooling? It doesn't look as much over the top, with that in mind. Especially for people who would like to watercool their system, but don't want to risk doing it the DIY way. Get one of these, and the enclosed corsair CPU watercooler, and you're done.

And that's different from other cards how, exactly?

It's just a crossfire 7970 setup, with high base clocks and low temps. It doesn't need any different drivers than standard.

Really ? America is full of fat gun toting bible bashing yanks. The Asus Ares2 is full of pixel pounding FPS goodness. I know which one i prefer ! :D

Who says it's just full of fat gun toting bible bashing yanks? :p That's not my reason for going. Besides I has a 7970 and I am fine with that for a while :D

Fantastic card. Considering it. :)

FYI - all the people that are saying 2x asus matrix platinum hd7970 is an alternative - it's not. There is a big difference. 2x ares II is 2x dual slot. 2x matrix is 2x triple slot. Latter is a nightmare in terms of heat and space - very difficult to find ATX mobo to fit 2x matrix. They will touch as in this pic: http://imgur.com/Yjimj and top card will get very very hot.

Ares II is beautiful and two of them will work fine as long as you have two 120mm case mounts. Though bottom card fan will have to be mounted on bottom half of cage somewhere. I doubt if you have two both rads can go to top of case.

Ridiculous cooling design. Would be much better just having a block on. Who in their right mind would have this card and not have a custom water loop. Doesnt even look very good!

The new Ares II advertisement on OcUK says "Click here for more informations" by the way guys :D

Agreed, the cooling solution makes no sense.

If someone has air cooling, they are likely to have a large heatsink meaning there's little space for the Ares cooler.

If they have another ALC unit already, again, where will it be mounted without looking out of place?

And most likely, anyone willing to spend that sort of money on such a graphics card is likely to have water cooling meaning they'd want their custom block on there...
