Hi,

I am looking for a decent graphics for around the £160 mark.

I will be using the computer mostly for design but I would like to play games on it occasionally. I have done research and the Saphire HD 7850 seems like a good card to me, but this is my first build so I am a noob. Does anybody have any recommendations?

Cheers and thanks for your help

Specs:
Intel i5 2500K
Gigabyte Z68AP-D3 rev.2
Corsair 32GB 1600MHz CL10 DDR3 Vengeance Memory
Kingston HyperX 3K ssd
650W Coolermaster GX RS650-ACAAD3 80+ Bronze
Case -Fractal Design Define R3

I have never heard of Club3D are they any good?

Very hit and miss when it comes to the silicon lottery and warranty quality unknown.

I would stick to Gigabyte or MSI for AMD and Gigabyte, KFA2 (BFG factory in Wales, excellent RMA) and MSI for Nvidia.

Noting of course that MSI are based in Holland so the return postage is quite hefty. Giga and KFA2 are UK based.

I checked out a review for that card and expect it to be noisy and hot. Other than that, it performs very well.

Thanks but I think I will stick with a more known brand.

At the moment I'm leaning towards the Sapphire 7870 XT.

need to be looking at £200 for a "decent" gaming card these days :(

I suppose I would consider a card with the max price of £200

Shop around and you can find a CLub3D 7870 XT joker (the one with the Thati LE core) in stock for £170+del

Mine arrived DOA and the supplier has had an issue with another card in the same batch so maybe an issue there.

Awaiting a replacement as we speak so will let you know..

I see OCUK aren't stocking the Sapphire XT Card at the moment, presume supply issues?

AMD are kings in this price region atm, but I don't know specifically which cards, others will recommend better than me.

£200 bags you a slightly overpriced GTX 660 from nvidia, but it'll run pretty much any game on a single monitor 1080p 60Hz fairly well. it struggles with high AA settings on recent releases, but will basically run any game more than 1 year old totally maxed out, so i consider it the best "entry level" gamers card (from nvidia).

660 Ti for £240, 670 for £300, 680 for £400 for the enthusiast cards.

660 Ti is slightly faster than 660, but still struggles with high AA settings in new games.

670 is pretty solid choice for 1 monitor 1080p to be future-proof.

680 is very solid choice, but you gotta invest a lot to get one.

£150-250 is AMD's ball park atm though for best price : performance option.

Thanks for the advice I will do some more research :)

Hi, I have seen the 3GB MSI Radeon HD 7950 Twin Frozr on sale for about £220 this seems like a very good price?

If I get this this card will i be somewhat future proofed?

Thanks

Be careful about what you hear in this review, the Tahiti 7870 is not quite as fast as the 7950, despite his frankly odd 3DMark results.

a 3DMark11 score of under 7000 is NOT normal and certainly not a "fair representation of a 7950 on the most recent drivers"

A standard 7870 at stock is more than that with ~8000 points and 7950 is closer to 9000.

The the Joker Tahiti 7870 @ ~8400 is right tho... :)

Well in the end I bought a 3GB MSI Radeon HD 7950 Twin Frozr for £226, it was £66 over my budget but I thought I may as well spend the money get someting decent. 3 free games also made it worth the price!

Thank you to everyone that helped me:D
