What is the best free software to see if your hard drive healthy or not?

CrystalDiskInfo is one I use, but I've always liked SpeedFan as it allow you to perform an in-depth analysis, and compare it to other users drives online of the same model.

Event viewer can be a good indicator too.

The way to use it..

Windows logs
>System

Click Filter current log.

Select 'Event Sources', then click 'disk, Disk', click OK

It will have every problem ever recorded for hard drives

Go to the HDD manufacturer's website and download and run their diagnostic utility...

Ta for that - got nothing but nondescript controller errors on mine which appear to coincide with recent software updates.

The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk1\DR#.

# = 1-3
Events: 58
Range: 27/8/12 - 19/11/12

Anything I should worry about?

defraggler , allows you to see all HD smart info

Check the error relocated sectors count , any in there she be on her way out
