There was a recent thread in GD debating the pros and cons of giving small children access to/or their own iPad.

My 15 month old son has his own iPad and he loves it; his interaction with it is improving daily and he learns so much from it.
Anyway, it seems toy companies are catching onto this now. Fisher Price are launching several children focussed iPad game cases and Apps and they look fantastic.

My Niece plays with her parents, although its not hers.
She just turned 2 in December and can already navigate the UI like a pro which is amazing and worrying at the same time. She unlocks it, navigates to the games folder and picks whatever she wants (usually some rubbish Peppa Pig thing).

Could see those being good when they become available though.

My 19 month old daughter can do the basics on mine and my GFs iPads and iPhones, she's learnt through watching what we do and knows how to unlock and swipe and press on something that she wants. She'll also say "iPad" when she wants to watch something.

I'd never buy her her "own" though, not for a long time. IMO it's fine for her to be introduced to the technology and use it appropriately, but ridiculous for her to actually have one herself.

A friends small child (around 1 year) who plays with an ipad a lot gets very confused when handed a book or magazine - its funny to watch him try to treat it like an ipad and then he gets frustrated when nothing happens when he touches and swipes the pages. Not sure if its good or bad having babies slaves to a screen so early, even though we all are later in life.
I'm sure theres some research out there.

I thought I'd get in and top you all with the 'early starers', by slapping my testicles on an iPad to see how they got on, but I don't think they're old enough to really 'get' it, yet.

Yeah, probably means they spend a little too long on the iPad and not enough quality time with physical items perhaps ^^. Hilarious to see i bet however ;D

Hahah

Limit their time on the devices I'm having a constant battle with my 7 year old about this as devices are littered all over my home wii, ps3, sky tv, ipods, iphones and now and ipad.

It getting too much and we now have to enforce some rules but not without pain :(

I don't mind him playing when we are busy but he doesn't put it down when I tell him. I get the "i'm just finishing this level...."

Makes me laugh as it's what I said to my parents with the old C64 hehe least he doesn't have to wait for the tape to load the game ;)

I was actually in my local Tesco Express this afternoon picking up some milk when I heard a child screaming and causing a massive fuss as his Mum pushed him around the store.

What was he screaming about....?
He was screaming because he wanted his iPad!
He couldn't have been much older than 3!
Is this what the world has come to? Babies with iPads?
