Thought I best make a new thread than start necro'ing my old one.

I was thinking about getting a 7700 as I am upgrading from a old 8800gtx, but was soon turned off that when looking at some benchmarks.

My current system is a 2500k, 8GB ram, XFX 750w PSU and 8800gtx.

I was originally looking to spend £120 as thats what I could afford at the time, Ive managed to stretch that to £180-190.

I only really play WoW at the min and since MoP has been released my old GPU has been struggling to cope with it on even fair details. And would like to be able to max it again.

I also really like to be able to play some other stuff such as blops2 and WarZ, I am really not fused about maxing out anything other than WoW but to have the above games running smoothly at medium setting would be good.

I am currently looking at the 660gtx as this is in my buget and from benchmarks looks to do what I need it to, the only thing that is worring me is the amount of people recommending 660ti's and 670's.

I am looking for recommendations and also a answer to whether a 660gtx would actually do the above, once again I am not looking to max other games other than WoW. Blops2, WarZ, MW3 and others are all fine to me on medium settings.

The only concern I have is that I have never owned a AMD card, and according to reports WoW is normally better run on a Nvidia card (Not sure how true this is...) How would one of these 7870XT run other games, like the ones listed above?

Also % wise how much performance would there be between a 660gtx and a 660ti?

And lastly would a 660gtx run other games well?

It's a very good GPU, it's actually the GPU from the 7950s and 7970s, just with some less shaders. Give it a good overclock and it'll fly and give you high end performance.

As far as I was aware the 660ti only beats the 7850 in a few games when you overclock the nuts off it? I may be wrong but that's the impression I've got after reading a few reviews.

With AA and high res, the 660TI can't keep up. This is them both overclocked to max clocks.

Yeah, this is pretty much what I have read from reviews. Obviously benchmarks on places like anandtech might show a different story ..as far as I'm aware though that's without overclocking both cards with older drivers.

I am gathering AMD are giving more for money than Nvidia, seeing the amount of you recommending the 7850/7870?

It just worries me that if I go the AMD way, I will end up regretting if I don't get the performance I would be expecting to get in WoW...

Even if you got less performance, the 7870LE would more than make up for that as it'll be a lot quicker than a 660, they have a big overclock headroom, and are much more "future proof".

660Ti slightly faster than 7870 at stock. When overclocked they're around the same or the 7870 will pull ahead if MSAA 4x is applied.

7850 is comparable with the 660 (non Ti).

Even with the latest AMD drivers, the 660TI is faster in more games than the 7850. The majority of gamers use 1080P and this is where I base my decision that the 660TI is faster than a 7850 on.

If you was to go higher res, you would need a 670/7950 minimum to get playable frame rates.

Agreed.

Until you clock the nuts of the 7850. Then they are all pretty close.
