Someone advised me to use a 8x4ft MDF board as a projector screen, long story short have painted and it looks mint!

Only problem is my xbox 360 + other hardware look like this on screen

SupposevI could black border it up..... But wondering as I need to buy a new AV receiver and media player,.if anything would stretch the image and other aspect ratios so I can always fill the whole screen.

My projector doesnt have remote lens zooming so dont fancy manually doing it all the time.

Just wondering what my options are?

Screen does look too wide for the image there.

Mine looks like this, only issue is top and bottom can have slight boarders depending on source.

Your screens 8:4 ratio is not the same as the 16:9 ration of your media.

Don't stretch the images, trim the screen.

Mr109 is right.

Specifically you'll want to find out what the native resolution of your projector is (1920×1080, 1280×720 or whatever) and paint the screen in the correct ratio that applies to that.

Note, that as Mr109 points out, both these typical resolutions (one of which you appear to be using) are 16:9 ratios and not the 8:4 you've painted.

If you're looking to keep a similar sized screen then a 8x4.5 foot screen is what you'll want which will allow you to change the zoom and take up the full screen.

The screen can only get smaller, not larger. If the image height is 4ft (48") then the screen width should be 85.3" (85" and 5/16th).

If it's easier to work in metric then in most cases MDF 8x4 is actually 2440 x 1220mm. This gives 1220/9 x 16 = 2169mm to the nearest whole mm.

Only if he's at the max manual, optical, zoom of his projector. If the projector is capable of being zoomed so that the image is bigger then he'll be fine.

That image gives me the impression this should be possible but you could be right.

EDIT: Actually, that's what to do. Project as big a full screen images as you can (e.g. your xbox dashboard at full zoom) and measure up one of the lengths. Round it down to the nearest whole number (just to make it easier to work with) and calculate out what the other edge should be (with a 16:9 ratio!) then make that up :)

There's no "possibly" about it. I am right. :D

What you're doing is thinking only about the theoretical image size base on lens capabilities. You've totally ignored the fact that to make a 16:9 image 8ft (2440mm) wide requires an image height of (2440/16 x 9 =) 1372.5mm ....and that's a bit of a problem when the bit of MDF is only 1220mm tall.!! Or do you have some sensible suggestion how he can increase the screen height without adding some extra wood and ending up with a dirty great seam running the width of the screen?

Like I said before, the max screen height is 1220mm, so to maintain a 16:9 screen ratio the screen width must be 2169mm. Ergo - the screen must get smaller! It's simple maths.
