**ASUS ARES2 AVAILABLE FIRST FROM OcUK (NOW IN STOCK)!!**

That price is just ridiculous.(Aren't they $1000?) You could buy 2 7970s and a full custom watercooling setup for the cost which would perform better.

Yes, but you wouldn't have the fastest graphics card, or anything unique and ridiculous. Which is the very purpose of this card and who it's marketed for.
They will sell, all of them will sell. Eventually.

Dont care about the price, its mental and I love it :D

Wont be buying one of course but I appreciate companies who push the limits with their products.

- Performance King - 13% faster than GTX 690!

I would be interested to see how they came up with that.

On the same system using 3dmark11 and overclocking I have run a GTX 690 and also a pair of Asus Platinum Matrix GPUs and the result was very very close. I don't think the card in the OP will oc anything like a pair of Matrix cards.

I also know above 1600p the HD 7970 GPUs will beat a GTX 690 nearly everytime but @1600p or below its a lot closer.

A GTX 690 is not that quick running at stock speeds but I think it will have a lot more ocing headroom than the ASUS ARES2.

SLI/CF results.

When Asus made the bold comparison of +134% over the non-GE HD 7970, they never stated which driver they used, I'd like to think they used the same driver versions but I've never seen/read mention of this.

Unless we know the facts - best bet is the anticipated reviews - it's difficult to make a good judgement without all the details. And here is why that info is required in my ramblings ;) :

HD 7970 12.11s in Crossfire - GE (X6008) vs non-GE (X5512) [results here] - the difference in 3DMark11 is +496 points or 8.99%. A single HD 7970 GE 12.11s (P9383) vs 12.9s (P8288) [results here] - is +1095 points or +13.21%. That figure taken literally, which is never a good idea, would be +2190 points or +26.42% doubled - we know CF never works like that so allow me to continue... For that +134% claim: HD 7970 non-GE (P8985) vs HD 7970 GE CF (P19888) 12.11s is +121.34%. Main difference from that to 134% is the non-GE clock of 925MHz to 1100MHz.

The link for that article in full is here. It's 3AM so correct my math if something is off ;)

The thing is Asus can dress it up any way they like but we know how fast the card will be from the specs.

Specification:-
- 2x 7970 GHz Cores
- 1050MHz Base Clock per core
- 1100MHz Boost Clock per core
- 6600MHz GDDR5 Memory speed

The same as any 2 HD 7970 GPUs running at the same clocks as above.

Its the same with the GTX 680 and GTX 690. If you run the GTX 690 at the same clocks as a pair of GTX 680s you get the same performance.

It is more about space saving really, other than that...well it is more or less a collectors item in reality.

Its like making a PS3 out of gold, but less gold and...something. :p

You forgot about

1. It is watercooled(ish)
2. It looks awesome
3. Space and heat saving
4. It looks awesome... oh sorry, I already said that

Just ordered 3 of these, awesome thanks!

wait no i didnt that price is just OUTRAGEOUS!!

I'm actually laughing about the price.
Even if someone had that much money, as others said, you could build a whole PC, and it will run better.

If they want to dedicate that much to GFX, then surely they would have done some research.
QUAD even triple SLI/crossfire, will destroy this card to pieces.

Ridiculous pricing.
