Spec My girlfriend - £400-£500

So yes I could have built mine for £400 and get similar performance, but I got a decent PSU, Case, Motherboard, Cooling, Extra fans, decent RAM, large HDD, DVDRW, 2GB Card, higher standard clocked CPU (for comfort of mind if wanting to OC).

YOUR BASKET
1 x KFA2 GeForce GTX 560Ti 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card with FREE Battlefield 3 PC Game £169.99
1 x AMD Bulldozer FX-4 Quad Core 4130 Black Edition 3.80GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £85.99
1 x Gigabyte 78LMT-USB3 AMD 760G (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £38.99
1 x Corsair Value 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-10666C9 1333MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMV8GX3M2A1333C9) £34.99
1 x Hitachi GST CinemaStar C5K750 2.5" 500GB 5400RPM 8MB Cache SATA-II - OEM (0J15261) HDD £34.99
1 x Tsunami Gaming Case - Black £19.99
1 x Swift 500W V2 Silent Power Supply £18.98
Total : £416.53 (includes shipping : £10.50).

I'm sorry that spec is utter garbage!

Dunns spec is ok. I would have stuck with the Viper RAM, it's cheaper and has a better CAS rating. Im sure he could have used the 2TB drive as well and been on budget but he can balance the build how he sees fit.

I get the feeling there is no point me explaining why the intel platform is better to be on. I wish you both luck with the build, happy gaming together

you're really lucky to have a girlfriend that loves computers. Mine hates them and resents the time I spend on my PC. She complains that I spend more time on kmy PC than I do with here Grrr!

Yeah mine does that too!

And she didnt really care for them until I made her help me put mine together, i knew I could do it my self, but I though I could teach her so If im away she can troubleshoot. Now playing games on my PC compared to the HP All in One TriCore that it replaced she loves PC gaming again.

Also Its nice to have a womans touch when cable tidying, and she also picks up the rubbish :)

look into getting home ehternet plugs. better more stable connection than wifi. slightly pricey youd need 3 plugs which would be about 45-50 quid but worth it in long run.

and the I5's integrated chip will play bf3 on low i believe? could be wrong. i think the gt 430 and i5's integrated will probably be similair in perfomance tbh.

Tht is seriously a poor poor spec. Ill name it 'AMD FIREBALL'..

Considering you can get a super build below for only a little more.

when you have a low end budget you dont spend 25% of your budget on a case. get that later. cheaper intel build than honos

tbh to save money i would look elsewhere for ram sorry ocuk but if you shop about you can get good 8gb set of ram 1600mhz with good timing for 30-35 quid

you cud upgrade mboard to gigabyte d3h if you liked but would cost more

if your going to put a gfx card in soon, dont get trinity, thats more for when you dont intend on using a dedicated gpu.

if you feel this costs too much you can drop to a lower I5 for 23 quid less, or drop to an I3. the I3 will not bottleneck the 670 or 660ti and still run any game nicely. infact i used to run an i3 with 660ti and it ran battllefield ultra all settings on full no problems.

I know it is, I was proving a point that if I wanted, I could get similar specs for 40% of the price, but no one in there right mind would even use half those components in any build. People pay more for quality as well as performance, I just went more towards quality. Looking back, I know I should have favored performance more, but I didnt. And I am happy with my PC, so why does it matter?

Just ok ? :D

and viper ram is defiantly a choice i just slammed teamgroup on there as its low profile and as i mentioned in post for him to go look for ram elsehwere as he will get a better deal of another provider. :)

build could have been made better but would cost more pennys

You don't have to prove it,

We (as people who advise other on what to buy) Know this..

Tried that, Its a large house that at one point got split in to 2, with all wiring separated. When my girlfriends mum and dad bough one side, the neighbor died 6 months later. Within those 6 months he changed his will to leave his part of the house to the new neighbors he barely knew.

The centre wall were then knocked through, revealing door ways and such. Electrics were done on the cheap rather then getting the whole house rewired. Basically bridged the fuse box's with a transistor box (I think?)

Due to this, Ethernet plugs get unusually low speed. BT Blamed it on Latency?

EDIT: Massive oversight, do you mean run cables through the wall?

Again unfortunately we cant, its an old Victorian house and all the walls are rock solid, similar to what they are between 2 connected houses. Makes wall mounting stuff a pain, just once you get it in, you know its gunna stay!

no i just meant plugs. you sure its not BT capping your speed at peak times that made them look slow?

when i was with bt even through my main connection on a night id be lucky to download @ dialup speeds.

Any more i5 builds?

New rules:
- You can go cheapish on the case as it will be replaced in the long run, if not before its bought.
- Ram Is likely to be sourced some where else as OCUK is not competitive right now, so you lose £35.00
- Forget wireless card as I might Hardwire under floorboards.

When plugging a laptop in to the Hub Via ethernet we get 79.5Mbps Down, 19.0Mbps Up. Recently Upgraded to Infinity!

And nope, live in a fairly small town, so we get 65-80Mbps throughout the day and night.

We have probably 30-40 2.4Ghz Gadgets in the house, so its defiantly interference. The WiFi card I recently bought

Solves this problem as it can run 5Ghz Frequency

Yeah it's ok, I'm not very forward in offering praise, just accept it lol

The Viper RAM isn't tall though bud to be fair. It's faster versions overclock well, the 2133mhz kits hit 2400mhz for example. So I'd favour that RAM kit over the teamgroup. You know my motto "infinite possiblities" there is always a little wiggle room in spec'ing ;)

I'm not going to fanny around doing half specs and sourcing kit elsewhere, like the OP is suggesting. You can either balance a build or you can't, it really is that simple ;)

Bearing in mind, not all are running at once.

2 Xbox 360's with Wifi @2.4Ghz------------------------2
Controller for each @2.4Ghz--------------------------..2
Headset for each @2.4Ghz----------------------------.2
Notebook with Wifi @2.4Ghz--------------------------..1
Wireless Mouse for Notebook @2.4Ghz------------------1
Laptop with Wifi @2.4Ghz------------------------------1
Wireless Keyboard + Mouse for Laptop @2.4Ghz---------2
5 Smartphones with Wifi @2.4Ghz---------------------..5
4 Wireless House Phones @2.4Ghz----------------------4
BluRay Player with Wifi @2.4Ghz------------------------1
Smart TV with WiFi @2.4Ghz--------------------------..1
2 Kindles with WiFi @2.4Ghz----------------------------2
Tablet with Wifi @2.4Ghz-------------------------------1
2 Microwaves @2.4Ghz---------------------------------2
Wireless Link for SkyBox in another room @2.4Ghz-------.1

Total: 28

I am sure there are a few I have missed..

All im asking for is a spec missing Ram, nothing else lol

I am not sure how good the motherboard is for overclocking, but OcUK is not the most competitive retailer for AMD motherboards.

With free postage the build comes to around £435. I would also go for a basic graphics card until you get a better one. It also means you have a spare card for trouble shooting.

The case actually looks interesting, although if you go for a Bitfenix Merc Alpha you will save around £30.

The FX6300 is faster than a Core i3 in games like BF3 MP.

Thanks, I have a GT430 as a PhysX Card, would happily give that to her for time being.

It does not seem too bad, but I'm thinking the i5 would be better in the long run. I may even give my internals to her and upgrade mine as I would be the one running servers anyway!
