Right rang sky today as contract expired 3 days ago,

at the moment online there isn't any deals that really compare with my current with sky £27 a month for unlimited phones and broadband inc line rental.

BT is more expesnive even as a new customer

Talk talk is utter fully star out please and there tv broadband and talk package comes with freeview + (or youview as they call it?) for £30 a month which dosent seem like much difference.

sky have offered me including sky+ hd tv £31 for first 6 months then £43 a month thereafter and thats for unlimited broadband, ulimited phone, entertainment package on sky tv hd +, and its including line rental

I've read online where people have rang to cancel and been offered (just before crimbo) 9 months free hd tv, 12 months free broadband then pay for talk and line rental.

is this simply just whats on offer at the time? or is there some way i should be putting myself across to squeeze these deals out of them?

i realize £43 a month after the 6 months is still a nice deal but if i can get better... :D

Just state that other people have been offered this and that Virgin Media offered you a better deal.

Tbh though if it looks like your leaving Sky will offer anything to keep you as a customer.

i couldnt endure without it :D specially with me going to work away next way for the foreseeable future need internet and phone to keep in touch with mrs and kids ^^

so you think i should lie and say i rang virgin and they offered me x y and z and see what the say?

I called Virgin last year to ask if they could reduce my bill as I'd seen other companies offer various services which came out a bit cheaper. The chap that I spoke to was very nice but he essentially said that if I wanted to change provider I was more than welcome to.

Unless, if they offer you a package with tv, broadband and phone just say you may get the tv but broadband and phone is cheaper elsewhere. Just say you want to keep everything in one package, but your split between getting the better deal on broadband and phone.

Hopefully they'll chuck in the broadband and phone a bit discounted.

like that idea cheers

Depends who you get with sky really, if you make any hints you can get a better deal somewhere else they will throw probably offer you a decent deal to keep you!

As your contract expired 3 days ago, Im sure they will be more inclined to keep you than someone new.

You can always play the "Valued Customer" card.

Companies will always just deny it if you claim somebody else has a better deal than you. Your best bet is just pointing out that you are going to cancel because another provider has given you a better option. Also how long you have been a customer comes into play, if just a year, then don't expect them to bend too far over backwards.

It also probably takes quite a bit of a fight with Sky.
My broadband router died after being a customer for four years and they wanted me to buy a new one. I argued that there terms said I could only use their router and eventually asked to speak to a manager, at which point they suddenly dropped the fee and sent me a new one.

you can often lie and get a better offer :)

Just say your current provider are offering you X to renew ( as long as it doenst sound too ridiculous)

and provider Y will offer you a similar if not better deal.

Tell them virgin is offering a better deal, you'll have to decline their offer but leave enough time for them to change their mind. If it's possible to offer you something better they will. If not you can always call back.

I cancel and renew my virgin contract every 18 months to get the best offers and latest kit.

I just got netflix and have freesat + also going to cancel sky.

We rarely watch tv only watch box sets now and have loads of them on netflix.

Last time I cancelled with SKY it took a minute guy just said fair enough and that was it. No hard sell. I suppose those on basic services aren't worth keeping..

either say you rang virgin and they offered you a better deal make price up and details or ring up sky and say you spoke to someone earlier at sky about a deal and lie through teeth

at end of day remember they want your custom use that ;)

If it were me on the end of the phone, you wouldn't get anything discounted. They'll know roughly what virgin etc are offering and any salesperson worth their salt will see right through you and call your bluff.

I'd actually call virginBT/etc and see what they're offering, haggle a bit to see what you can get out of them, and then go back to Sky. That way you have options and information, which actually gives you some leverage as a consumer. If there's a hint that you're just chancing your arm then they'll shut you down.

If you're willing to actually cancel your subscription then chances are you'd get a good deal, if you're just playing them off against another competitor then I doubt it'd work.

You're more likely to get a good discount if you simply say you can't afford it at the moment as things are tight.

i just dont want them tocall my bluff lol, i want to cancel. ok sir well cut you off tomorrow

*crys* :D

Exactly. So have options and information. Then you can negotiate. If they are in fact the best deal out there, then push them a bit, and if they don't budge accept that you got a better deal than anywhere else. If they aren't the best deal, then you negotiate a better deal using their competitor as a reference point for improvement, and if you play it hard and they call you on it, you have a better deal elsewhere.

The fact is they have you by the danglies so anything you get from them is a bonus. I got free broadband for a year because they gave me an estimate that was twice my actual line speed (at minimum). I'm still ****ed, but no one else could have done anything about it anyway so I took it.
