HMV Finally closing down for good?

I feel very sorry for the staff who have this hanging over their heads. Potentially 4000ish families affected.

If it does indeed close its doors for good, will it prompt online sellers to 'up' their prices?

I may as well use my gift voucher for a fire starting.is this the end for gift vouchers? I know I will never buy 1 for someone else.

If somebody saves the store after they've trimmed the brand down, then they may allow gift cards again, so I wouldn't go burning it.

Martin Lewis has said don't through away vouchers yet and he's in the process of writing something to do with them.

Keeping hold of mine for now.

More like 4000ish students and teenagers.

You forgot to mention the late 20s, early 30s guys who still live in their parents house and haven't shaved ever and still have spots like they're 17.

O and the relatively attractive females who could swing for either team.

such a shame. There is nothing like handling a product and browsinga large collection of cd's but can understand why. It does annoy me though that young people see MP3 downloads of good quality recordings when they are generally ****e unless encoded at a higher bit rate. Supermarkets tend to have very little I want which now leaves me with Amazon I guess. I still perosnally prefer to have a physical cd and then convert to mp3 to a decent quality.

I had £380 worth of vouchers I've found very difficult to spend over the last week or so, as you can imagine, I did manage it though, well all apart from one £20 voucher.

I don't think it's fair that they suspend vouchers tbh, I mean they are happy to take the money when people buy the vouchers, and I wouldn't be surprised if they knew what was coming at the time too.

So now they're only taking those vouchers with the queen's head on :p

If this thread was never made I wouldn't have known HMV were in trouble so thanks OP/OcUK as I would have been seriously peed had I not known and ended up stuck with a shed load of useless vouchers.

How did you end up with £380 of HMV vouchers?

The company is insolvent. It has gone bust. It's not about 'fair'. It's not 'fair' that they don't pay suppliers money owed once they go into administration, or that they stop paying rent on the shops, but that happens too.

Of course it's about 'fair', the consumer doesn't care what problems the company has behind the scenes, and why should they? It's about people paying money for vouchers and then being told at a later date that the voucher they get is worthless.

So by your logic you are saying that all the people with worthless vouchers are wrong to feel a bit peeved that the company is now in administration.

No he's saying there are many people who are owed money by HMV. They can't pay any of them, it's not just one group that has been unfairly targeted.

No, it's not. It's about the law relating to insolvent companies with creditors.

I'm afraid thats not relevent. The company is in administration and gift voucher holders are creditors like many others.

You can feel as peeved as you like but they don't do it to **** people off. They've gone bust. Finito. No money. I'm afraid that legally gift card holders are just like all the other creditors who are owed even more money.

customers have been told, vouchers sold in our local store as late as 5pm LAST NIGHT, aren't valid ....
