I recently moved into a new and bigger room in the house and the ambient temperature is significantly cooler. Before my HD 7970 would top out at 1240mhz no matter how many volts is applied. Now, it can go up to 1250mhz for some odd reason. Now, here's where it gets weird. With Crysis 2 and Far Cry 3, my HD 7970 would crash within 2 minutes at a core clock above 1200mhz in my old room. Now, in my new room, I can play these games at 1250mhz core clock. In my old room, the max temp my HD 7850 has every reached was 86C. In my new room, it is 74C. I thought 86C was still in safe ranges for an overclocked GPU? Do you think the chip and components crashed because of that temp?
