Which card!

Sorry Gregster I pressed to wrong button see my post above

Now when can I get my hands on a 900D.....

I thought you may have :D

That 900D does look good and my next build will probably be with one. I love the 810 Switch but want something that can have big rads and fans all internal.

Depending on the next gen of GPU's, I can see me skipping (unless they bring more than 25% performance of my current 680 and I don't mean bog standard 680's). I have not decided on a water cooled mobo yet but I can't see the benefit from what 8 pack has said.

The performance of my 3960x in an air cooled RIVE and my 3970x in a watercooled RIVE are indentical almost down to the last mhz.

The difference is the w/cooled mobo does run a lot cooler than the air cooled one.

I will try and get some pics of HWMonitor (not the greatest software) running to show the numbers. I will post in your 3dmark11 thread.

Nice one thanks :)

A waste of money is a little strong but for the extra performance over a 7950/670, some people feel, doesn't warrant the extra spenditure. a 680 Vs a 670 would only be noticable with a fps counter running. You wouldn't notice without and the same for the 7970/7950.

If you want a 680 or 7970, go for it. The guys are giving their advice (of which is good advice) and showing how you could save a few pounds.

Knowing what I know now, I would still go for the MSI LTG 680's or the MSI Lightning 7970's but that would be me knowing I am spending far more than I need.

So this is a good card then?

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7970 Windforce 3X 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £329.99
1 x Sapphire HD 7970 3072MB PCI-Express Graphics Card (11197-11-40G) £329.99
1 x MSI HD 7950 Twin Frozr III OC V2 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £259.99
1 x HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H795QC3G2M) £239.99
Total : £1,171.96 (includes shipping : £10.00).

I would be choosing between these. 2 7970s for you, and 2 7950s.

Between all of them, you will not notice performance difference. What you will notice is the noise and thermal output of each card, look at reviews and choose wisely! (I can highly recommend the Gigabyte cards. I have the GTX670 windforce and the cooler is phenomenal. UK support is second to none too)

see now we are talking.
I know the price is about 60-90 difference, but i need a card to last a few years so i figure (theory) the 7970 should last longer than the 7950! I said should and theory

ive also got a small case so its important to have a card that keeps colder better, temp is very important. As i dont think i will be water cooling this card.

A 7970 will not last longer than a 7950. Because the difference is such a small difference its like arguing a 4.6 overclock will last longer than a 4.4 overclock.

Go 7950 crossfire if you want it to last a few years. ;)

Not particulary I would have said. Its a reference card so not as good a PCB or cooler. I think Gregster means this card:
