EVGA's Extended Warranty Offer - Worth it?

Hi all,

This is my first post on OC UK forums so my apologies if this has already been discussed.

I've just purchased a pair of EVGA GTX 6 70 4GB FTW cards and was wondering what the general consensus is with their extended warranty offer?

Not sure if I'll still have them in 3 years (I'm hoping I will!), but if not, will they add much to their resale value?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers,

jc

I personally don't believe it is worth it as, in 5 years (what you'll be extending the warranty to), it'll probably be more cost efficient to simply buy a new card.

Thanks for the reply Cleeecooo. It's 20 EUR for an extra 2 years (5 years total), or 40 EUR for an extra 7 years (10 years total!). If I was going to go for it, I'd probably go for the extra 7 years on both cards. Would cost around £66. I'm thinking that it would make the cards stand out above the others on eBay when I come to sell them if I can add '5 years warranty remaining' - especially given the quality of EVGA's warranty service.

Ah! Didn't know that whyscotty. That was a deal clincher for me so definitely not going to go with it. Thanks for your help guys :)

Thanks MoRT489. The wording isn't very clear but I think this means that the extended warranty is no longer valid if the item is resold or given away:

"If parts with long-term warranty availability are not registered within 30 days of purchase, if they were given away or sold, then they will follow the standard 3 year limited warranty terms."

I had the same issue with my Classifieds.

I rang Evga Europe as the website isn't clear, I was informed only the Original owner gets the benefit of the extended warranty

Cheers whyscotty - I'd posted in the EVGA thread but your post clears it up. Shame about this clause in their extended warranties. I think they'd sell a lot more if they allowed it be transferrable.

If they're offering an extra 2/7 years warranty then that should be based on their confidence in the quality of the product. Instead it comes across more as a "hopefully they'll upgrade before we need to honour it" type of attitude... at least to me anyway.

This I didn't know :( I mislead the guy who bought my EVGA 680, as I believed the warranty was transferable.

Eeek! Grab your canoe and head for Panama!

Fingers crossed he'll never need to use it. And it was obviously an honest mistake... EVGA's website is pretty unclear as others have said.

I would have thought you probably would have got a new card in the next 5 years?

Yeah I would have thought so too. I'm just thinking/hoping that SLI 670s will be good for 3 years at least. If I keep them longer then it would be good to have the peace of mind of knowing they'll be replaced if something goes wrong with them after that. My 4870X2 stopped working just after it's warranty expired a few years ago. I was thinking more for resale value/eBay listing differentiation more than anything else to be honest.

Very unclear, the way I read it was if they are not registered and then subsequently sold they get the 3 year warranty. It doesnt seem to say what happens if they ARE registered within 30 days and then sold.

TBH with companies that have a policy which you as the consumer can't understand, often the bod on the phone won't either, so you can usually phone 3 times and get 3 different answers. Hopefully the EVGA guys on here can clear this up and perhaps get the webpage updated.

Hi All,

our extended warranty is only for originally purchaser because we want to honor those people that spend their hard earned money on new products.
If there is a 10 year warranty on second hand products why should anybody purchase new ones? (beside new DX) In this case everybody can run SLI of last generation cards and will have better performance.

In my opinion a 670 FTW will not be outdated in 3.5 years, of course it will not be a up to date product anymore but a SLI of it will still rock and if we do not have a product in stock to replace it in RMA we replace it with one of equal or better performance.

Whoever bought your card still gets the remainder of the standard 3 year warranty
from when the card was made.

This was the way it was explained to me.

Yes, the three years of warranty do also count for second hand user. If the second hand user do have a copy of the originally invoice for this card this get counted by the invoice date. If the second hand purchaser do not have the invoice we do take the date the card left our warehouse.
