AMAZING NEWS: Blockbusters....

Alarmingly this is very true. With all these stores going under, all of a sudden there becomes a lack of appeal to go out shopping.. this will have a knock effect on all stores to a degree.
I think you need to check what you think you're observing with reality - 'all these stores going under' - there's not that many and they are in a minority, especially medium sized high-street businesses. It is because that something going under is relatively rare that we hear so much about it.

It's a good time to be working for Administrators. They must be rolling in it now !!!
Hmmm...

Exactly. It feels like every time I go into town to get something I either waste my time and petrol (town isn't close), don't get what I want or I feel like I've been ripped off.

I now order as much as I can online and only go into town when absolutely necessary. I also don't clothes shop in town very often due to an online store offering free clothing returns, better prices and a better range. I paid £20 online for a pair of board shorts they were selling in Two Seasons for £60. Hmm...

Maybe I'd go to town more if it was closer. The 26 mile round trip often isn't worth it.

Must be best part of 12,000 jobs potentially lost this week.

that is a lot of extra benefit to pay for, somewhere around £1.3m a fortnight.

(To add to that, I don't think the likes of HMV or Blockbusters ever added to the 'appeal of shopping').

More jobs gone :( It is a shame they didn't move with the times but digital downloads and netflix/lovefilm have killed off Blockbusters. Blockbusters killed off the local VHS/Beta rental shops, so guess it is Karma working.

This is true, I remember my local corner shop vhs places and Azad video closing due to blockbusters.

It is a big shame about more jobs going though!

All this ultimately calls for the return of local independent stores no?

I mean, the Blockbuster here is fairly decent sized and is regularly busy but since it's franchised if the chain goes then so does this store.

I think if this is the case then it will be a good thing in a way especially for local businesses who were trying to compete.

Netflix is now more mainstream as is Lovefilm's streaming services, so if BB didn't have their own "app" which for some strange reason BB USA do then they were set to fail!!!! and Boy did they.

This is so weird, i was in asda last night and accross the road is a blockbuster and my sister said how have they survived so long and hmv are going under.

Time to expand the blu ray collection.

Took their time about it, no idea how they lasted this long.

Theres going to be a lot of empty shops around the country soon though... IMO business rates need to be cut so they can compete with the internet

tbh look at most retail its down by a lot over the whole sector

lots of the big places are who never got onto the net or invested early in it are either going bust or struggling .

one thing is companies have to offer better deals now to get the sales so its good news for us who want bargins
