AMAZING NEWS: Blockbusters....

Well at least they are honouring gift cards for the moment unlike hmv's. If you have any I would go to your nearest store straight away.

"During this time gift cards and credit acquired through Blockbuster’s trade-in scheme will be honoured towards the purchase of goods."

Used them a few times when I want a movie now not in 6 days when it gets delivered but at 4 quid a time I stopped bothering.

Did a lovefilm instant trial and found it a bit meh annoyingly.

Only went in a few times. The last time i was in one, was a good few years back.

I wont miss them. Not really surprised they're in administration.

High streets for you, they wont budge, so let them fall.

While I feel sorry for the people losing their jobs (I've had this happen to me and it sucks) this was bound to happen. At the end of the day I am not made of money - if I want something then I'll find the best deal. If 9 out of 10 times that's on the Internet then so be it, that's where I'll buy it. I cant afford to spend more just on the off change it will prop another store open. Media has always had thin margins from what I understand so they can't afford to drop prices that much - they have much higher costs than selling form a warehouse.

Unfortunate but inevitable. Big question - who is next?

I thought they had gone ages ago. All the Blockbusters i've seen in recent years have been closed down stores.

Bet they wish they never refused to buy Netflix now, that was a stupid decision they made, still sad though, I really feel we're coming to the end of high street shopping as we knew it growing up, all that is left of any usefulness in my town is Argos now, beyond that it's supermarkets, it's crazy but I really feel in the not too distant future shopping on the high street will be an alien concept to children growing up now.

It's not entirely their fault. In Stafford, for example, the council has refused to budge on their £lol thousand a month rates and many smaller independents have closed down, most citing that if the rates were reasonable they would have survived. There was a big article in the local rag, I'll see if I can fine it on ICStaffordshire.

There are many factors at work here, many of which are tax related (the cost of getting goods to the store, cost of maintaining the store, cost of maintaining staff etc.) as well as the business models being, in the case of a lot of these fallen giants, inflexible.

So that's three major stores going into administration in just two weeks! Who next? Halfords?

Why does everyone say Halfords, they're servicing are is constantly full around here and they charge a fortune.

Has there been reports of losses ?

Think Argos will kill off homebase and shut down a lot of stores very soon.
