Anyone know what causes this

I thought it was my overclocking but it still does it at stock settings, both CPU and GPU

It doesn't cause the test to stop and it continues on to the end, only happens on test 5

Also I am only getting a 3D Mark 11 of 8377 is this about right for rig in sig

That screen looks like memory is clocked too high (I know you have it on stock). To confirm, knock the memory down 50Mhz and rerun the test.

That score looks about right for that CPU but could you tell me what your GPU score was?

I have lowered the memory right down to 500mhz but it still does it, my GPU score is 8781 here is a link to my result to compare http://www.3dmark.com/3dm11/5589471

Very strange. Does it do it in anything else or is it just the fith test? (which I believe is CPU being used only).

If it only does it on this, I am confused and would say reinstall 3DMark11 but if it does it on anything else, it could be the 2D clocks not working correctly.

Just the 5th test!

Your GPU score is fine for a stock 7950 btw. Try a reinstall of 3DMark11 and if it doesn't do it in anything else, I wouldn't worry about it.

Checked your CPU score and that is perfectly normal for 4.6Ghz clocks.

Baffled sorry :(

Very strange one, I would just play some games demanding games like BF3 or Crysis 2 and see if anything happens.

Also Heaven 3.0 is a good benchmark

Your not using VirtuMVP are you

I don't know a lot about 2500k CPUs but on a i7 975/980/3960/3970 which don't have integrated graphics if they have a problem with the physics test it is normally BSOD time.

If it was the Graphics card, it would not run other benchmarks and games ok.

What makes me think it might have something to do with VirtuMVP is that involves the integrated graphics on the CPU at a time when the CPU is under maximum stress running the physics test.

Having said all that I am only guessing and am probably wrong.

Not running VirtuMVP and 3D Mark Vantage runs fine and here is my result

and here is my Heaven result

Do those look OK?

Have another run on Heaven with the following settings

Tessellation = Extreme

Anisotropy = x 16

AA = x 8

Resolution = 1920 x 1080

This will work your graphics card to the maximum, if it copes with two or three laps it should rule out your GPU as the problem.

Do you have the advanced version of 3dmark11? You could loop the combined test in which case.

3dmark11 can throw a tantrum from time to time, not so long ago I couldn't get the physics test to render above 3fps, the only thing that sorted it was a complete format and clean OS install unfortunately.

Did as you said, ran Heaven at those settings three times in a row. I don't have the advanced version of 3D Mark 11 so cannot run a loop test.

Have you tried reinstalling 3dmark11 as pgi947 said it can be a bit quirky.

If you can run 3dmark vantage and Heaven 3 and don't have problems in games it is starting to look like 3dmark11 is the culprit.

Silly question what drivers are you using.

I have reinstalled it and still have the problem. I am using the latest drivers.

and yeah both Heaven and 3D Mark Vantage run fine.

*BUMP*

I just tried running 3D Mark 11 again and test 5 is no longer Purple/Green.

So it looks like problem is sorted going to run again to make sure!

Strange but True!

One of those 'X-Files' things. Strange things happen on computers and all of a sudden work with no clue as to what the problem was.

I have an update. I have the advanced version of 3D Mark 11 and started to run it in loop mode to test for stability.

However sometimes it would go back to the desktop with a workload error which seemed to be because something in the background was causing it.

So I decided to run it in window mode to see if it was now stable.

In window mode test 5 looks absolutely fine its only in full screen mode that the screen is purple/green!

Any idea why?
