Hi,
I am looking for some in ear earphones for around about £50.
Looking for (obviously) a good, balanced sound but the bass needs to have some presence, though not overpowering.

I have a bad track record with earphones so a more durable one/good warranty would be preferable. The last ones that went to the graveyard were the klipsch image s4 and whilst i thought their sound quality was good, I felt it was lacking in a warm bass but med-high notes were very good.
Other ones that have failed the test of me were a few senheisers, a couple of the crappy apple ones and a few more.

I don't require any in line buttons and don't care about appearances just want a good sound :P

Any suggestions will be great. Thanks

A common recommendation on Head-Fi at the moment for really cheap headphones are the Sony MH1Cs, which I think are sold as an OEM set. Only around £14, though sold out at the cheapest place on the forest site as well as the same dealer on a well known auction site. Not saying that they will be amazing, however they are apparently a better proposition than a huge number of the cheaper options on the market.

Have a pair on order so cannot yet comment, but they're worth reading on.

I have found a pair for £18, do you think that will be worth it? Read a few reviews and it seems like its right up my alley to be honest. Cheap headphones with a good sound. Not a fan of the flat cable thing but the sound quality and price have a bigger weighting on the decision for me!

I'll be honest, the majority of headphones from the larger companies are all pretty poor compared to the alternatives available from smaller competitors. The S4s I've not personally heard, though consistently they are poorly rated against the competition (that said, they're quite old now). Not terrible, just not as good.

Unfortunately I'm no better a judge than you are when it comes to this as I've not heard them either, however I'd personally wait to see if you can get them for a little cheaper (£13 or so), unless you need them desperately. Either way, the value for money is the main thing here, and at £18 they should still be great value.

ive had numerous pairs of Skull candy in ears over the last few years, sound alright, but cable near jak wears quickly, but, this is not a problem as they come with a years warranty, i jus send em back every 12 months for a new pair (normally new model too) just keep the receipt

I have never really liked Skull Candies im afraid but I know what you mean. Onceaponayear I would buy some headphones at HMV for like 30 pounds or whatever. And inevitably they would break, so i could just trade them in and get different type. This lasted too long... But as HMV is (soon to be was) a physical store i found this easy. I find it more effort having to post stuff back. They seem like they are not made to last.

Its funny. When I was purchasing the S4s im pretty sure i was reading consistently good reviews and heard quite a few people rave about them (probably only about a year ago). And now when I look up reviews about them now it seems as if everyone has my opinion. Nice, clear sound but not a full sound and with very little bass. Rather disappointing :(

I couldn't be bothered to wait around. I'm constantly having to borrow other people's headphones and the sooner that stops the better. I only have the apple headphones at the moment in which only one earpiece works. So I ended up getting the MH1Cs from the "well known auction site" ;) look forward to hearing them. Constantly positive reviews besides the cable and yeah it will be nice to have some proper music again. I'm worried that this is one elaborate troll to be honest ;) - its against instinct that cheap headphones bundled in with mobile phones are actually rated well. Regardless of how they sound, its not even 20 pounds so im not too bothered! Thanks for the recommendation.
