Create a super high res screenshot? (4k and larger) - Arma2

Hey hey!

I'm trying to find out of a method to take a super high res screen shot, prefered res would be around 7000x5000 but anything bigger than usual could be useful too.

I've been googling it a bit but not had much luck. Found a method to do it on another game (ME:3), maybe that could work in this? I'm no tech wizard though so I need a hand! :) (That result is here. )

This is for a uni project btw, looking at printing it large hence the need for high res.

If you know a way to do this on any other games please let me know how, it might be that I can transfer the method to Arma.

Is too obvious? Maybe I'll look stupid? I'll say it.

Choose a large 3d resolution in the video options, then take a screenshot?

Maybe...no ok I'm being stupid.

Although this isn't a method directly for ArmA2, there may be a similar method available by playing around with the settings.

Using this method, you can ignore your monitors resolution and instead hit the limits of your graphics card's maximum resolution, which is 4096x4096 in most cases.
Using the Nvidia Control Panel to create custom resolutions, you can force these a new desktop resolution and then start the Source Engine in window mode with the resolution settings in the command line. If there is a similar method for ATI/AMD graphics cards is yet to be discovered.
Open up the NVIDIA Control Panel and navigate to Display -> Change Resolution -> Customise... -> Create Custom Resolution
Here, you can set your resolution of choice, but keep in mind that not every resolution will work (such as 1920x1). Also, lowering the refresh rate will enable you to achieve even higher resolutions. With a recent graphics model, for example, 4096x4096 is possible at 30Hz.
Only few resolutions will be supported, so it will fail with the error message "Custom resolution xxxx x yyyy at 60Hz (32-bit) is not supported by your display." Nevertheless, the custom resolution will remain until you click OK. At this point, you will most likely end up with black screen, unable to see your desktop. Using remote control tools such as TeamViewer or similar VNC tools, you can stream the video to another display or computer.
Once you can see your high resolution desktop again, boot up your Source game with the new resolution in the command line: hl2.exe -width xxxx -height -yyyy -windowed
After starting the game, it is often possible to revert to your old resolution with the game still running at a higher resolution.

only thing i can suggest is that you set your vid settings to highest (3840 by 2400?) your frame rate is going to suck in built up areas but should be ok for screen shots

All screenshots (so far as I know) capture at the monitors res. Turning up 3d res just makes the gpu crunch the image down before it's sent to the display.

Thanks for that, will be having a good look at it!

well with that prog you take your screenshots( i use fraps )about ten then it stiches em together . pretty sweet and free

I'm getting stuck with 2560x1600, as I think my GPU is bottlenecking the size. The process they suggest doesn't seem to work.

Chipset: GTX 670 Maximum Digital Resolution: 2560x1600
Edition: Windforce 3X Maximum VGA Resolution: 2048x1536

Any ways around this?

use this

http://hugin.sourceforge.net/

excellent program and easy once you get the basics down

few i did of theHunter with it

might try some arma ones on it later

I think I'm missing something, my internets playing up atm so it may be that, but there's no images in that page?

Hugin isn't what I had in mind, due to the FOV differences, I can't imagine that'd work well. I'll give it a go though and see what results i can come up with.

you can alter fov with hugin  also there is images on the link i shown

I'm not seeing any, must be a problem my end (Virgin will get an angry email soon).

Aye can alter it but I have to be very picky with this as it's for a photography degree work and FOV really matters, so if it doesn't look right etc etc.

Made a screenshot at the highest res I can get currently; 2560x1600. Hopefully can figure out some hack to get it to pump more pixels, apparently the game is rendering at x2 that(to be squashed down) so I don't see why I can't get it to just output at x2!
