Alright, well i recently started playing pc games and was thinking about building a pc from scratch and was wondering if these components will go:

1. Processor (CPU) - Intel 3rd Generation Core i7-3770K
2. Motherboard - Asus Maximus V Gene Motherboard
3. Memory (RAM) - Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 16GB (2x8GB)
4. Hard drive(s) - Western Digital Caviar 2TB
5. Graphics card(s) - notsure yet
6. Power supply (PSU) - notsure yet either
7. Case - NZXT Phantom 410 Enthusiast Midi Tower Case - Black/Orange

im not to sure what graphics card to get all i know is i want it to be good and dont know about psu either so if u can help me with choosing a graphics card and psu that would be great or anything else i left out that will be great. Thanks

why and how to use 16gb if you want it

h88p://blog.laptopmag.com/faster-than-an-ssd-how-to-turn-extra-memory-into-a-ram-disk

agree 8gb is plenty for games only, but why not use a ram disk with the other 8gb and take the wear and tear out of your sdd, it's quicker by x10plus and makes your sdd last longer, and your games will love it, and it's easier than you think, can make your page file in it as well or any cache disk, for a second ide or sata drive to give that a boost :)

no idear either,

Why choose when you can have both?
SLI or CrossFireX? Fret no longer because with the ROG Maximus V GENE, you’ll be able to run both multi-GPU setups. The board features SLI/CrossFire on Demand technology, supporting up to Quad-GPU SLI or Quad-GPU CrossFireX configuration. Whichever path you take, you can be assured of jaw-dropping graphics at a level previously unseen.

for yours spec covered both options

Never heard of a RAM disk before.. Thats really impressive. I assume the RAM is unusable (in terms of conventional RAM usage) when being used as a RAM disk?

why does his get SLI and my doesnt?

soz im a noob

The motherboard you picked does SLI too, With stulid adding a 850W PSU, thats enough power for 2 X 670's. :)

Its that the PSU has ample power.

The full sized ATX board is less "cramped" so you wont have two GFX cards sitting on top of each other.

You also have free PCI-E slots should you need them.

yes, once used no other program has access to ram, correct

take a few clicks to setup, and another few to get rid of, can make different images to install on ram disk same as a CD/DVD/HD DVD/Blu-ray emulator etc

With space around the cards temps will be better too..

You can add a PCI-E wireless adapter or Sound card. :) (there's probably a lot of other options too, Revodrive. :) )

He spec'd a PSU that will cover having a 2nd 670. If you gave us a budget and all the parts required we could balance something out for you. Stulids basket is nice but you could trim some money off it, the RAM has already been discussed

The 830 SSD I would definately consider. It's better than the standard 840 and comes pretty close to the more expensive 840 Pro. Mobo is still very good and supports SLi/Xfire properly. Added an AMD alternative to the 670 which happens to be cheaper, think I'd probably lean towards the 670 too though to be fair.

Look forward to seeing what you settle on fella :)

Indeed.

You wont be adding a card to the MVG board once two dual slot GFX cards are fitted.

very much doubt ill get 2 graphics cards but its good to keep it in the back of my head just to be sure. i was thinking of having the 60gb ssd just to store the operating system on. I will start editing videos of gameplay so thought 16gb would be better. My budget is around £850-£900 but i was thinking of this psu (OCZ OCZ600MXSP-UK ModXStream Pro 600W ATX Power Supply)
and graphics card (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=GX-285-AS) and what other good motherboards are there?

A 60GB SSD wont go far as you will benefit from putting some of your programs on to it.

The Gigabyte 660 card is clocked faster and cheaper, great cooler on it too.

The PSU still allows SLI in the future.

Or with a cheaper board, it still supports SLI/Crossfire, it also has some handy overclock features such as

• Dual BIOS switch
• ClearCMOS+Reset switch
• Power button on the PCB
• Voltage read points.

AFAIK the memory bus on the 6** series apart from the 670 is a huge flaw if running SLI? Or is that only for higher resolutions and the memory bus not does not affect SLI of the cards?
