Right,

Quite a few people ask about moving from other industries into the offshore oil and gas.

I was sent this through on an internal email today from one of the group recruiters. If you have been considering trying to get into the O&G industry this is a pretty good opportunity.

Cheers for this!

Hope it helps dude, had a few trust messages from people and direct entry into jobs in the offshore doesn't work due to lack of relevant experience, this will give an intensive training course (paid for) and a good job at the end of it.

Sorry about a thread hijack but I would like to move into the oil and gas industry out of the steel making industry. I'm currently coming to the end of a instrumentation and control apprenticeship and have to choose a final department, Is there certain aspects that I should be aiming for; i.e. working gas, power generation etc.

Sorry mate, I can only advise on engineering really :-/ and mainly project/structural.

I think we have a few instrumentation guys on here (I think firestarter_3x might be, if that's his right name)

My company, Subsea 7, also do a conversion scheme for engineers in other industries, although I've a feeling applications for this year may have closed recently.

My old place used to recruit from other industries. Can't get enough people at the moment and constantly being contacted about other positions.

Very true, lots of recruitment and expansion going on atm, good times :)

I wear many hats, some fit, others fall off :p

Looks like a great opertunity for someone.

Where is this scheme based? I work in a project role for a large engineering company and have pondered trying for a career move into O&G, but don't really want to live in Aberdeen.

I only have 18 month experience, am I best waiting another 18 months or try my luck now?
You can always give it a go, are you in a trainee sort of role? It's about now I believe that the big companies are doing their recruiting for the like of graduate roles and so on.

Edit: Might have missed it for this year by the looks of thing:-

Plus the oil companies tend to have good graduate training schemes.

A colleague of mine has just handed his notice in moving to Oil & Gas. I was looking into it but I want to build my experience where I am now first.

No, I am 30 and have experience of Water/Env Planning and two years as an Asset Planner.

Could I trust you and Kahn for a list of companies/agencies that, with more experience would be worth contacting?

I am going to undertake my Physical Asset Managment Cert and Diploma over the next 2 years, I have an eye on a masters in it but its so damn expensive to fund!
