Do the Police give grants to people to have CCTV installed at home?

Why don't you bill the deceased's mourning family for services rendered in assisting to catch their beloved son's murderer? The police may have used your resources, but think of them as the contractors working on behalf of the client (the deceased's family) who should incur all the costs.

:D

Sadly, it wouldn't surprise me of some of the more Ayn Rand mentality sharing members on here will think that is genuinely good advice.

Ok imagine it is one of your family members that had been killed. There was a local guy with CCTV but he won't let the police view it because he does not get paid.

See how you might be annoyed?

I agree with the OP.
If there was a grant then I would consider getting a system and ending up on a Police database of known CCTV systems.
It's quite a good idea.

Not really.

Should the police also pay for (grant just means 'free money') bicycle locks, car alarms, burglar alarms, self defense classes, anti-virus software, security guards in shops etc etc.

The police expect to be paid by the clubs to police football matches, you ain't got a cat in hell's chance of getting them to pay for crime reduction tools.

For someone who "tries" to come of as an intellectual in this forum, I think you should learn to read in 'context'.

I expect that sort of stuff from people who attach 786 to their usernames. :p

You are coming across as being a bit of a doofus to be fair. You effectively want to charge the Police to access images on your CCTV to help them protect people like you, and you feel that they are harrassing you in doing so. You also feel that you have no social responsibiltiy yourself and that if it doesnt affect you directly ( I wonder what you would think if it was a family member that was murdered and someone else would only give up the evidence that would catch them for a fee) then you are entitled to monetary compensation. That is the context as I see it. The fact is that the Police obvious saw you had a CCTV installation and in cnvassing potential eyewitnesses asked to see if you had any footage that could help, not much different from asking you if you saw anything that migh help them in their investigation....and you want to be paid?

And I am hardly an "intellectual", I'm just not a dumb as a bag of bent spanners.

If there was some form of funding to encourage home security fpor those who cannot afford it themselves then I might agree with you, in fact there are many schemes and grants available that help people fund home security, however the OP already has what some might consider an "overkill" system already, he can clearly afford the installations costs and has no need of a grant to encourage him in dealing with his own security of his personal property. I wonder if he witnessed a crime whether he would only give up his time to make a statement for a fee?

It is his time after all, and what has it got to do with him, you know he isn't the victim after all.
