iPad Mini...

If you have a case then dw about a screen protector, I personally would have waited for the refreshed iPad mini which will no doubt have a more current SoC and screen to put it inline with other apple offerings.

The SoC is fine, more than enough to drive iOS.

...but 1024x768 is a terrible resolution for a £270+ 8" tablet, how on earth did they get away with that one?
The 9" 1920x1280 Nook HD+ screen is sweeeeeeeeeet by comparison!

I bought the wife one for Christmas.

I already have a nexus 7 myself amongst other tablets.

Its a lovely device. The size is great, screen looks more than adequate to me. I think people get way too hung up on resolution and PPI.

It just feels lovely to hold and use. Its powerful enough too.

I went for the black one aswell... Thought the white one might get grubby easy. Now to find a decent case for it!

What sort of case are you after - if you want one with a smart front and a back I would recommend the Tecknet or Poetic cases from the river. Around the £10 mark and very nice (I have both, the tecknet front is slightly stiffer but both do what they should).

I just saw actually that the package I ordered comes with a case. I have no idea which type of case it will be though. My guess is a low quality, cheap one.

Having taken my nexus 7 back due to hardware faults I moved to an ipad mini. The build quality difference is just staggering. Feels amazing to hold. I was worried about requiring iTunes but all the apps I need don't require it.

PDF apps are so so much better on iOS with smoother scrolling and better feature sets.

I bought avplayerhd which allows wifi transfers of films so no iTunes and it supports all formats I've tried so far.

I refuse to pay the price for the Smart Cover so am trying to find a nice 3rd party case at the moment.

For me the build quality difference and app choice makes the extra cost worth it. The text is fuzzier due to the lower res but I'm used to it and don't notice it anymore. The benefits far outweigh the negatives for me. It's a joy to use for work and in bed.

Totality, for a case you could try the two makes I posted just above.

Edit - Also AVPlayerHD is exactly what I have been looking for, cheers.
