I've been looking at monitors for around £600, to be used for photography. The new Dell 2713H looks very good, not the HM model. Whilst new and not yet reviewed on TFT central does anyone have any ideas or views?

Other places have it for £600 and in stock whilst Dells own site has it at £200 quid more. What gives

Thanks

Just Dell bumping price up a bit or other stockists pricing it very competitively. TFTcentral review coming within the next couple of weeks but already confirmed its a light AG coating ( and no sign of cross hatching) which is good news :)

Excellent news and looking forward to this. :)

It's just a shame it's arrived over the Christmas period as normally I'd have done a lot more testing by now and would have much more of the review done. Hoping to make a good start next week properly though :)

Yeah Christmas is always a pain for monitor reviews (but nice otherwise). I contacted a few people asking if various models were available but I think my messages got absorbed into the Christmas ether. :D

noob question, but what's the difference between the 2713h and the 2713hm?

As above the U2713H offers a broader colour space (~Adobe RGB vs. ~sRGB). It can also be hardware calibrated and offers support for 10-bit colour (likely 8-bit natively like the U2713H with an additional 2-bit from dithering). Furthermore it offers uniformity compensation technology to further improve colour consistency - this can also be fine-tuned if you have the right calibration hardware. And it has some extra ports and some touch sensitive buttons.

Given the level of processing and intended market I don't think that is going to be a particular strength of this model unfortunately. I am guessing 16ms+. I would love to be proved wrong - TFT Central should be giving you the answer in the coming weeks.

An excellent review as always. Really nice explanation of the GB-LED system (and an appropriate article linked to there :D). Really liked the comparison between the U2711, U2713HM and U2713H at the end, too. Certainly seems a worthy successor to the U2711 as you say. :)

A friend suggested the 27" Dell Ultrasharp he had at work was nowhere near as god as the 24" Dell Ultrasharp he had at home..

The H is overpriced by far compared to the HM for minor improvements..

Not sure I really agree with this. It depends what "minor improvements" you're talking about and what your uses are. There are features which clearly separate the two screens and define their target market (and price) as a result - wide gamut, 10-bit colour support, hardware calibration support being 3 main differences with the U2713H

Indeed. The only minor additions I can think of are the extra MiniDP connector, multifunction card reader, proximity-touch buttons and extra OSD features. There are obvious and significant differences in performance characteristics here.

Ok, there are some extra improvement but for most people the HM will be more than satisfactory.

Not disputing that, just the comment that the U2713H is "overpriced for minor improvements" which isn't true :) it'd priced higher because of its higher end features. If you're an "average user" the U2713HM is probably more suitable, but the U2713H has some significant differences which justify the higher price for certain requirements. In fact it's a very affordable option for those kind of high end uses and needs
