Car insurance for men to be the same as for women.

Got the quote email today and they said £1334....before interest.

I'll stick with my £900 as it seems to have DOC cover on a TPFT policy. All it say is as long as I have permission to do so, so I guess it doesn't need to be insured also.

There's a good chance your guess would be wrong. Every instance of DOC cover I've had required the other vehicle to be insured, and if the car is taxed then it would need to be insured anyway.

Got mine today, £900 something (2nd year,1 year NCB). Gonna shop around i think!

Out of interest what are you guys driving? I'm a first year driver and my renewal is up April 25th... I'm currently driving a 1.2 Corsa. Now my first year was £1500 which was unpleasant!

What are your first year in comparison and what cars are you driving?

Same NCB and 2nd year here.

Renewal came to £780 for me.

Shopped around and got it down to £580.

Same question to you also Raymond :p

My first year was £1,700 and I have a 2001, 1.25 Fiesta Black Edition. I really should have had pics up by now considering i have had it a year lol, will try get around to it...

Sorry, 3rd year but 1st NCB.

I'm driving a Yaris SR, 2008. Sister and brother in law as named driver. Park on drive, fully comp, 10 months accelerated policy.

Renewal prices seem to be an absoulte joke. Had mine through for £400. I'm 34, have 8 years no claims and have had my pug 306gti6 for 7 years. Why they had put my insurance up yet again I do not know.

Did a few online quotes and found one for £305. Called up my current insurers and they did it for £300. It is annoying they put out ridiculous renewal quotes.

On a side note whilst playing with quotes online I noticed that it is cheaper to insure my car if I park it on the road (which it is now) over in a garage, driveway or private bay! I can only assume that people who park on the road make less claims for damage? I found that odd. I was worried that parking it on the road (I've moved so now have to) would cause my insurance to go up, got lucky there :D

On the subject of the cost of car insurance, that is to say the high cost of car insurance, I think we should remember it isn`t just immature blokes driving round like the roads are a racetrack that puts up premiums, it`s those fraudulent scrounging parasites who put dishonest claims for whiplash. Years ago I can remember having an accident hitting a guy (who`d set off at a junction then stopped for no reason whatsoever.....) at about 5mph, the lying t****r also put in a claim for whiplash ! My wife`s just had a accident (not her fault in my opinion), the cars hit side to side and what`s more the impact was so minor that my wife`s car just needed the paint T cutting off the side of the bumper. The fraudulent cow has put in a claim for whiplash !
Now let`s be clear, if she, or any other of these scroungers, get paid out on it, it`s all off us who are going to pay for that with higher premiums. Anyone who thinks about it should hate these money grabbing scrubbers, yet how many of us, if we`re honest, would tell a friend or family member who was trying it on what we actually thought of them ? Until it becomes socially unacceptable to try it on with "compensation" it`ll keep happening and our insurance premiums will keep going up.
I hate those all scroungers, and so should you.
Think about it.....

I`m surprised nobody has picked up on this as every person I ever talk to about whiplash fraudsters has a lot to say on the subject ! Maybe it should have its own thread ?

You should if you are buying a product insuring you against risk.

So hypothetically - if Asian people are of greater risk to insure than white people, you're saying it's ok for insurance companies to charge them a greater premium?

If you are going to discriminate on every other variable, then why wouldn't it be acceptable to use race, sex or age?

Either everyone pays the same premium regardless of risk, or you allow discrimination based on evidence.

I don't really have a problem with age discrimination in this context as that effects everyone equally at some point in their life.

But discrimination against something you were born with isn't fair, and seems backwards considering all the anti discrimination laws introduced into society over he past several decades.

But you understand the difference between discrimination based on prejudice and discrimination based on evidence and why we have anti-discrimination laws to prevent the prejudice based discrimination?

Why should I pay a higher premium because Asians are (hypothetically) worse drivers. To be met with a shrug of the shoulders and told that they can't help being crap drivers, they're just born that way is daft.

Yes, but it is irrelevant to the principle behind anti-discrimination law - to provide equal opportunity to everyone.

To allow discrimination in the premiums charged on car insurance is counter-intuitive to that principle and is (was) an inconsistency in the law.

So instead, everyone else is discriminated against?

Well you have women now being told that not only are you insuring your own crash risk, but also subsidising mens risk as well. Women got the ***** end of that anti-discrimination decision didn't they. Men are being treated prefferentially at women's expense.
