I rarely post topics of this nature any more, usually if I can't find myself I just leave it from too much hassle. But I am trying to help someone out here.

Is there any reputable places where one can get a guitar evaluated, or does anyone know anything about em?

Cheers.

There are plenty of people here who know about guitars.

Tell us the make, model and year / serial number :)

Obviously, the condition may effect its value.

Gibson Les Paul Standard 2001, SN 91552XXX.

Obviously hidden the last three digits. Don't know much about guitars and I have trust issues :p

IIRC, this was also back in the day when the standards also came with the scratch plate. I think they started hollowing the bodies around this time too to make them lighter.

I thought standards always came with a scratch plate?

2001 is not a particularly relevant year for Gibson. In fact, it was either then or not long after that people started questioning their quality control.

They started removing the scratch plate around that time for a more contemporary look. The classic series still has it though.

I would have said more like 800 quid without pics & a better description. It's only a 2001 Standard after all.

I didn't know that.

It's only two screws two remove the scratch plate if people don't want to keep it though, why didn't they just leave it on?

If for insurance purposes then Market Value for new replacement which is circa £1.5 - £1.8k.

The second hand market has nose dived for late 90s early to mid 00s Gibsons at the moment. There are lots of them, there is nothing overly special about the standards and people don't seem to want to spend money.

An AA/AAA top 2009/10 standard in pristine condition will only set you back £1k to £1.1k from eBay if you negotiate with the seller to avoid fees.

However, I recall standards only costing £1100 new back then anyway.

Incidentally, Fender Strats were only £599 for the USA ones around the same era, now you are only getting Mexican for the money which, unsurprisingly helps the re-sale slightly on the older USA standards.

Unfortunately for Gibson there is nothing to push up the prices, as new players can buy the Epiphones for still around £300 and the Gibson Studios sell for £400-£600 second hand but as new all day long.

Worth trying the guitar shops as you may get as much money and an easy sale via them.

Thanks for all the input guys, definitely plenty of food for thought. So from everyones input it could be a gamble of anything from £600-1000? Do these things depreciate with value? It's hardly been used and is in pretty good condition if that helps things.

Comes with a carry case that has a velvet inside (!) and a wee velvet foldover for the front of it.

Thanks again for your time guys, greatly appreciated.

£600 is the most I was offered PX in a shop but I can't see it dropping in value.
A bit of advice I was given by Mikey at the Birmingham Guitar Guitar shop is that around August onwards is the golden times because Daddy's have promised sons & daughters nice shiny equipment if they do well in their exams.
My guitar was actually bought by a Consultant who had promised his daughter a Les Paul if she did well.

Apparently it was a 1992 standard. They got £850 for it, the guy looked pretty stoked so I've got the feeling he got a right bargain lol.
