Sorry, boring thread!

My contract runs out in a couple of weeks and both of these are available for £15.50pm with 200mins, unlimited texts and 500mb of data, all of which are plenty for me.

Doing some reading myself, but would be interested if anyone had an opinion about which of these to go for for general light use, a bit of browsing and satnav. No interest in using the cameras really, and I don't use my phone much for games or music... although I might once upgraded :p

Upgrading from a San Francisco, if it makes any difference. Enjoyed having the freedom of custom roms on the SanFran, are either of these two locked?

Cheers

Out of those two, the one X, much better screen.

And you can root and flash custom ROMs on either of those phones, the one X will be far better for choice with regards to custom ROMs and general support etc.

Would try and see if you could also get the GS 3 or one S. Rather have any of those 3 over the XT.

Don't bother with the GS 3 mini :p GS 2 is better.

Well as said above, out of those 2 (XT and 1X), then go for the 1X.

EDIT:

If you want much better battery life then it might be worth paying the extra £5 a month for the GS 3. The one X isn't great and the T is all right (could have been better)

OK, thanks for the input. Must admit I prefer the design of the Xperia from an aesthetic point of view but the One X sounds pretty good. Will probably go and have a fondle then make my mind up.

No problem :)

The one X has greatly improved with the JB update in a lot of areas i.e. battery life, performance (huge improvement), audio, camera etc.

Yeah, other than looking a bit generic my only concern would be battery life with the One X.

With general light use does it last a full day OK?

Should do as long as you don't have weather syncing every 30-60 minutes, preferably keep google now of, have good signal and keep brightness set to "auto" or preferably manual control.

iirc most people can get about 18-30 hours with about 3 hours to 3 hours and 30 minutes on screen time.

And of course if you root and flash custom kernels, ROMs then it should improve more and if you really wanted you could replace the battery with the X+ (2040mAh) battery.

Nexus 4 by miles, it's the only Android game in town. (Sorry Samsung and HTC fanboys :p)

There should be plenty of stock next month from the Google play store (£240-£280 sim free) which should drive these stupid contract prices down too (~£15pm)

I can't see the nexus 4 contract prices dropping that low sarge! :p At best it will be around the £25 mark and if you're very lucky then around the £21 mark.

Lot's of stock + failed/no marketing campaign = lots cheap deals.

Only super popular/over hyped phones like the SGS3 and iPhone (or ones with low stock) can maintain high contract prices.

Well I want to have a new contract in place within the next week and half (before O2 end their data sale), so the Nexus 4 doesn't seem like an option really.

The One X has a nasty locked bootloader. HTC will let you do a half-arsed unlock on it, at the expense of your warranty.

True, but networks will still take advantage of it due to the specs (quad core CPU, 2GB RAM, HD screen etc.) and being branded by "google".

The prices will come down to that sort of price (£20) but I can't see it happening for quite a while, especially not £15 any time soon, GS 2 and pretty much any decent phone is still going for at least £18 (for a good deal).

Of course there could be a superb deal at some point like there was with the one S and vodafone (unlimited data and texts and like 500 minutes or something iirc for £20 a month on a 18 month contract iirc? And this was only after like 2 months of release)

As I've had a One X, I'd probably go for the Xperia T... maybe. It's a tough call but the 'safe' choice is probably the One X.

Pre-JB update I wouldn't recommend the One X to anyone, it really wasn't all that impressive, it's much better now but you can't check screen time in the default battery chart which is absolutely ridiculous. Thankfully you can probably find another way to track it, but still. :p

Yeah that is incredibly annoying the way they removed the screen on time! I am hoping they go back to the way the battery stuff was before or at the very least include screen on time, it is my main dislike about the sense V4+.

You can get the screen on time via better battery stats and other battery apps.

Also I saw you said the One X has a 'much better screen', have you got a comparison of them as most people seem to the like screen on the Xperia T and it seems to get a lot of praise?

GSMArena were just critical of the viewing angles if I remember rightly, which isn't great, admittedly.

Seen them for myself and as usual with Sony's phones I find their screens very poor in regard to viewing angles, colours looking washed out etc. at the slightest angle (which is largely why I said X display is "much better" as I personally very rarely look at my phone "head on"), of course the unit I saw could just be a poor one, as you are well aware, every display can vary! Just look at all the mixed opinions on the nexus 4 :p

I would say it was sharper though, but not by an awful lot and the difference isn't that noticeable unless you look really closely! Both are vibrant (when you look at the XT straight on), X has MUCH better viewing angles and the XT looked like it had the same "floating" effect as the X, maybe not as good though.

Can only find one video to show what I mean (pretty crap video though :p)
