Encarta

On a similar subject, does anyone remember Cinemania? It was like Encarta for films, like IMDB on a CD?

I used to get lost in that for hours, it was so easy to do, following links, reading reviews and watching clips. They used to have updates a few times a year with new films included.

We had Britannica, but when the internet came round it was weird to look back and think how out of date the encyclopaedia on a CD was. Now it just seems crazy to even put a CD in a computer...

There's plenty of polished education apps for iPad containing photos, video and music. Look under the reference section.

There won't anything available now like there was 15 years ago with CD based Encarta and Britannica programs. Wikipedia is the dominant player and it wouldn't be viable.

I did see Encarta '96 for 50p in Cash Converters the other week. :p

There's numerous ways to get offline style Wikipedia. Numerous mobile apps to do it too.

Though, you're not going to fit much on a CD.. :D

I remember it well and still have the original:
