Do the Police give grants to people to have CCTV installed at home?

Where do you live to have this kind of setup?!
Edit: My thoughts for what its worth... Help the police, and hope that some day, someone else has the same system setup should the same ever happen to you!
How would you feel if it was your family in the firing line and someone withheld information/evidence that could help?
Compensation culture, "my delivery was late, can i claim?!" , no ... you could go to a store and pick it up off the shelf, or you could go to the depot and collect, OR, wait and not be a jackass.

Safety obviously. Considering armed burglars entered our home it came in very handy finding the other suspects several months ago. If your hood is **** or has opportunists coming in from other suburbs then why would you be without one?

Lets hope your CCTV is never used for the purpose you think you need it for.
Twould be a shame if you ended up with you head smashed to pueces with a ahmmer and the police having you view your cctv of the incident.

On a related note... I thought that you're only allowed to point your CCTV cameras at your property (house, land, driveway, etc) and that you're not allowed to point them at the general road/pavement/next door's house. Am I wrong then?

If that were true, the Google Streetview cars would be constantly be committing a criminal offence wouldn't they?

How do Google street view get around it then? I know it's more of a photo than a live feed but it's still capturing people's houses, front windows etc and then it's uploaded to the internet for all to see (unlike a CCTV feed which a least is only available top the person who has it).
No you don't. Aside from extreme cases, there's effectively no right to privacy in a public place.

As long as the CCTV doesn't intrude on a persons privacy (such as looking through a window or into a neighbours garden) then it's fine.
I believe Google street view blurs out peoples faces doesn't it? Although I don't know how they deal with images that accidently look into a persons house...

I skipped a couple of pages but here's what I don't get why people are hating on the OP.
So you can get a grant to fit solar panels on your roof for your own personal gain (heating water), but if we had CCTV fitted and that helped catch a murderer and ask for a bit of cash to cover the costs all of a sudden that's ridiculous?

As I said earlier, the police don't pay for bicycle locks, security staff in shops, burglar alarms etc so why make an exception for CCTV?
Also the difference between your example and the OP is that grant is to INSTALL solar panels. The OP had already installed his CCTV and wouldn't even be asking for money had this not happened. He's asking for money retrospectively because by sheer luck it happened to capture a murder and now he wasnts payment for helping solve a case. Calling it a 'grant' is a cop out, he basically wants paying for helping the police out.
Imagine if we all took that attitude. You've just witnessed a mugging and a copper comes up to you a few minutes later and says "which way did he go", would you really say "let's discuss my compensation package and then I'll tell you"?

haJust out of curiosity is this relating to the murder of a guy that happened on Wedenesday in Old Trafford? Section of the road was closed off and forensics etc. were there, never seen it in real life before. Hope they find the scum that did it.
