Lifetime spend on buying cars

About £130k on cars (might've missed some out that I couldn't remember)
and £15k on motorbikes

It hasn't cost me that much though as I've rarely lost much in resale value (but let's not talk about how much I might've lost on the cost of modifications and general tinkering.....)
 
For me it's the following from 1999

1999 - 1989 1.2 Vauxhall Nova - £850
2001 - 1993 1.4 Vauxhall Astra - £1000
2003 - 1996 1.6 Vauxhall Astra - Free (my parents old car as they were given a very low trade in offer, though probably worth at least £1500 at the time)
2006 - 1993 2.3 Volvo 940 - £190
2006 - 1996 Nissan 200sx - £1850
2008 - 1995 2.0 Ford Mondeo - £400
2009 - 2002 2.0 Ford Mondeo - £1900
2012 - 2003 2.3 Saab 9-5 - £2300

Total is £8490 or about £10k if you include the second Astra. It's vasty more if you include the amount I spent modding the Nova and 200sx.
 
driving 4 years:

money the cars have cost me all together inc return on sales: £28k

MG ZS TD - £1800 (written off by insurance with a £1500 payout and bought back for £150)

MG ZS TD - £800

£8660. Not too bad for all the fun I've had, plus I've got more than that in resale as I tend to fix all the minor issues and sell at a profit.
 
I've spent quite a bit, but dont regret it at all

Focus 1.8 TDCI - £3,000
Golf GT TDI 2.0 - £8,000
Golf R32 MK5 - £15,000
Golf 1.6 SE MK4 - £1,400
Golf GTI MK6 - £17,600

GTI as my daily driver and Golf 1.6 as the dump run/fishing car
 
About £16,500 over 11 years but I probably still have around £9k equity in the cars I have, plus I have done pretty well changing cars getting more than I've paid in some cases so It isn't as bad as it sounds.
 
About £50k over 9 months

- BMW 1 Series 1.6
- Ford Focus 1.0

+ £12k over 12 years
- Ford Puma
- Ford Focus

In our defence the new Focus will be giving us 10+ years of very cheap motoring.
Yes we could have a bought an older better car for less but we wanted to pay depreciation rather than maintenance.

Also, used F20 M-Sports and Focus Eco Boosts were not available at the time.

How much maintenance do you anticipate? :eek:

Surely you'll have to pay it anyway once the warranty is up? :\

Not in Eyedot's league but have spent £117k in the 10 years I have been owning cars (company cars before that)
 
If it's purely on buying the cars then not a huge amount, from first car owned to now it's £3,100 although there have been some gaps in ownership as a car isn't vital in London for me. If you wanted to count the amount spent on repairing/servicing the cars then it's probably double that if not more.

2006 - 1995 Nissan Micra - free from parents as they were offered a very low price for a trade in.
2009 - 1992 BMW 525 - £800
2009 - 1995 Toyota MR2 - £800
2011 - 1997 Fiat Coupe - £1,500
 
The total is around £9k on cars (since i began in ~'04) and actually about £9k on bikes (since '08).

Peugeot 306 - £1,500
Skoda Octavia MkI vRS - £7,500 (£800 of the 306 into this)

Suzuki SV650 - £4,100
BMW F800ST - £5,000 (£3,000 of the sv into this)

Granada - -£1500 +£0 = £1500
Granada - -£1500 +£800 = £700
Rover - -£800 +£0 = £800
Senator - -£1500 +£0 = £1500
735i - -£7500 +£3500 = £4000
540i - -£20000 +£11000 = £9000
RX8 - -£22000 +£17000 = £5000
A8 - -£30000 +£17000 = £13000
GS430 - -£38000 +£14000 = £24000
540i - -£4000 +£2000 = £2000
730d - -£18000 +£11000 = £7000
750i - -£18000 +£11000 = £7000
S2000 - -£15000
STR - -£6300 + £5500 = £800

So, as we stand at the moment I'm approximately £91,500 down
