I recently read the first few chapters of the first book and really want to get into the series! It's a perfect series to move on to after reading ASoIaF :)

Is it worth reading the prequel first?

Thanks.

I *think* you should read it after book 4. Don't read it first because that will introduce you to lots of stuff you aren't supposed to know yet!

It was published quite late in the series, after book 8 I think.

Ok, thank you :), in that case I think I'll just read it after book 10 (according to the Wiki list it was published after Crossroads of Twilight) as I suppose that's what the author intended.

After reading asoiaf I highly doubt you will have the will to finish wheel of time. Books 7-11 are really quite poor and sometimes difficult to read. If you skip any chapters on the women characters you might be ok! :)

I'd agree that those books are a little slower than the others at points but they are still amazing reads. I'm almost done with the final book, it's so good!

The prequel is very good too, I'd say its best to read it sometime around book 3-4 iirc.

I read the prequel after book 12. It just adds to the story, a good read too if not a little short.

Just don't read Crossroads of Twilight. The books around that aren't the best but they are still ok - Crossroads of Twilight is the biggest abomination in the history of literature.

Read a one page plot summary of it and you won't miss anything.

Haven't read the last one although it is sitting on my table at home, but the one after COT (Knife of Dreams?) was a lot better and the Sanderson ones have been good.

currently working though crossroads of twilight, it's a slow read but arn't they all?
worth reading them all, I read New Spring when it came out after book 8, but I don't see any reason to read it before/after then
