So i have just been asked to create a 3D project in Blender over the next 2 months and im looking to change my GPU from Amd to Nvidia.

At the moment i have a reference 7970 in my gaming rig which as far as i know cannot be used to help render anything in Blender hence the switch.

Im thinking of buying a gtx 670 and selling off the 7970 when it gets here.

What would you guys do in my postion

Go for a 4GB 670 is my advice. The more memory on the GPU the better and yep, AMD are useless for running Blender.

Cheers gregster. Looks like ill be spending a bit more for a 4gb one. They are pricer than i thought.

Anyone have a guess at how much my reference 7970 is worth now?

No probs and we are not allowed to discuss second hand prices here sorry. Check out an auction site to have a look though :)

The 4GB is pricey but it will serve you better than a 2GB. Blender loves VRAM and a nice powerfull card.

Not sure why you require 4GB over 2GB? I might have missed something important, but AFAIK the other components (bus speed?) aren't fast enough to take advantage of 4GB RAM just yet

In my research into this, it was recommended that the more VRAM available, the better. If you know that the 2GB is enough for now, sweet and cheaper on the OP but will it stay that way or would a patch/newer version impliment the extra?

My bad.

With regards to the vram i was also under the impression that the more the better when rendering scenes in Blender.

I just did some searching and the forum users who talk about Blender, have all said 2GB or more. I stand by my original choice.
