Virgin Media Discussion Thread

AFAIK from midnight to 8am they dont really care, if you are downloading like mad, as everybody is usually in bed at those times.

Just been upgraded to Virgin 100MB but my netgear router will only do 70MB download speeds over wireless.

Been recommended that the Asus 56U will do well over 100MB on the wireless but wanted some opinions from you guys.

Wireless is always going to be iffy with speed - I would go for wired if you really want the best speed.

Seems the 120 upgrade went fine here

I've got a supposedly 60MB connection and i'm only getting 25MB this morning, assuming no one else in my area is on the internet at this moment (4am). Web pages are sometimes slow to load and BF3 is impossible to play at any time of the day.

1 year of nothing but trouble with Virgin and i've been with them for god knows how long (not that it makes any difference).

Time to move on I think.

I haven't got a problem wired but its just not possible to wire up my PC even with home plugs.

Looking for the best router for a decent 100MB wireless connection.

Had a terrible day yesterday, first time in about 6 months I couldn't game as the connection was ****ing me off:

Hoping it's just a blip of serious congestion due to the snow rather than indication that things haven't changed a damn bit.

Its apparently and SNR fault in my area, oh and they are doing upgrades ready for speed doubling, and contention issues. I really didn't pick a good time to join.

Well i've just finished a 50 minute conversation with VM and i'm back up to 60mb.

Online gaming is still awful. Pinging the BBC brings some mixed results-anything from 20ms to 300ms.

Not sure where to go from now.

Any ideas fellas?

Youtube is so poor on VM right now.
Has been for some time - something to do with their peering I think.

Part of the problem with VM is it's no good me having 100mb connection if it chokes when you try to stream video etc. Never quite sure if they manage down certain traffic, or despite their headline connection speeds their connections to the outside world just aren't up to it?
