Shame Gigabyte don't make a nice custom cooler that blows the heat out the back of the case, only Evga classifieds and His seem to do so, totally mystifys me ! especially with quite a few cards taking more that 2 slots now.
Also that was another massive difference between your old card and new one..extra heat dumping on the motherboard !
Yeah the windorce cools the card amazinlgy well BUT witht eh NH-14D there is like 1cm gap, amaybe less beween the top of the card and the cpu cooler... all that hot air gertting blown on the coller no doubt reduces it cpu cooling. Irony is though, the 480 is SOOOO hot it is ridiculous, in my old rig I had to upgrade all my system fans when I bought it as it was cooking the NB and cuasing a warning light to come on the mobo, wnet away once I put in 5x Sythe 1800rpm fans, but it was hugely noisy on full blow!
New rig is much quieter, 3x 180mm fans in base blow upwards, the FT02 is a weird case as the mbob sits on it's side. But it was really designed for rear blow cards.
Blowers are really noisy though?
And i think most people have good airflow for the fan cards?
I wouldnt get another blower, i dont do multicard setups though.
See above, I have good airflow in case, but cpu cooler sits so close to GPU that airflow conflicts. Blowers are much better for over all system temps as all the hot air goes out the back. Windforce 3x fans are super cool, card sits at 4-5 degrees above ambient at idle, comapred to 15-20 dgrees on the 480. Max temps are atounf 75 on the 680, and 94 on the 480. I cannot hear my 480 blower design over my cpu fans on the Noctua. My old 280 blower was massivley loud though.
As an update on the overall situation:
I spoke with my contact at Gigabyte this morning on the phone, they service really is second to none. I have dealt with the same guy all the way through, he knows me by name and is polite and interested in the issue.
He was a bit surprised at the reatilers offer, he said it was all very irregular and that they should not ask me to do such a thing; they should just refund me if they are going to do it and sort the rest out with GBT direct.
Gigabytes offer to me is that the retialer MUST RMA the card back from me to them and refund me. They have then agreed to replace the card to the retialer if they RMA the card back to GBT.
He sorted all this for me over the course of this morning. The fact that they agreed to do it (when they have no obligation to) just shows what a top notch compnay they are, and even if their cards are not rear blowers (

) they have my loyalty for life.
Now I jsut need to hear back from the retailer and see what they say. I had hoped ot get a resonse by now as I sent them a mial 5 hours ago, but I spose I need to be patient as I am delaing direct with teir MD.
