Hey,

Got a RAZR HD from Canada last week, but had to wait for a SIM unlock code before I could use it! If you are intending to get one, I would advise going for the World version, as it supports UK LTE bands.

My initial impressions:

  • Build quality is excellent and it feels great in the hand. The kevlar back has a slightly rubbery touch which makes it nice to grip. BQ is light years ahead of my Nexus S and Optimus 7
  • Nice and snappy, as you'd expect from any dual core Krait device
  • Still rocking Android 4.0.4 which is not cool... ICS (4.1.2) coming in the next few weeks apparently. The US and World versions were upgraded in early December, but the Canadian one is lagging slightly
  • Screen is lovely, but the whites have a noticeable yellow tinge on them compared to my Nexus S (both are AMOLED)
  • Battery life is excellent. I'm only on my second full charge cycle, but currently 69%, 23hrs on battery, 1 hour of screen time (didn't use much yesterday)
  • Software is pretty dang close to stock Android, with some nice tweaks... coming from a Nexus, this is good
  • SmartActions seems like a great program - need to spend more time customising this
  • The notification LED is basically the greatest LED of all time - I need to buy Lightflow so that I can really put it to use
Some quick and dirty pics:

I cancelled my Nexus 4 order to go for this phone instead, and I feel like I made the right call. The RAZR HD set me back slightly less than Nexus 4 would have, and I trust Moto BQ much more than LG's!

Not sure if anyone cares about Motorola any more :p but if you have any specific questions, please do ask :)

Cheers,

Su

i actually hate you. i wanted one really badly. Still would have one over any other phone

i will not be coming into this thread any more!

Very nice! Such a nice phone, shame the camera and audio fall behind the GS 3, note II, one S, X etc. by quite a bit though.

Why can't Motorola actually care about the UK, they have good devices now with good software by the looks of it. Is there any word about the HD and MAXX coming out here at all? Thought they where suppose to be here by now?

is dac not good on this?

Sorry, got the audio part mixed up (it is the RAZR i that falls behind by quite a bit!), the audio on this is supposedly good!

according to gsmarena test:

Good audio output

The Motorola DROID RAZR HD audio output was very similar to that of its smaller brother - the DROID RAZR M. Save for the slightly shaky frequency response, the smartphone did well in our audio quality test.

It offers very good signal-to-noise and dynamic range scores as well as low distortion levels and very little stereo crosstalk. Add the excellent volume levels and you get a really solid overall performance.

Falls behind the phones I listed by a bit still though, but not by a huge amount and I imagine will/could be improved further with more updates.

i would have actually paid the op to get me one.. look at it.. got damn it, its industrial sexiness.. ah

The reviews have mainly criticised the camera, but apparently it's improved on JB. I haven't actually set the phone up with all my apps & data, as I have a habit of doing a factory reset every time there's a big OS upgrade. So with JB coming in a few weeks, I'm just gonna wait!

I'll report back with some benchies, speed tests etc. when I get the update :)

I got it via a Canadian equivalent of HUKD (Red Flag Deals). They have a FS/FT forum, similar to OcUK, and there are loads of people selling their unwanted upgrades etc.

I paid CA$433 for the device + shipping, and $7 for the SIM unlock code, so $440 (~£275) all inc. Some risks associated (;):p) and obviously the warranty is a grey area, but I felt like taking a risk so  I've seen people list them for as low as $350, so if you can line up a seller and time it with a trip over, you can score a total bargain!

Great price! Utter bargain  Hopefully you won't have any problems though.

Good news about the jb update supposedly improving the camera quality too.

Look forward to seeing some photos etc. :)

OK, I came back.. I knew I would!

I have always had phones with useless cams.. Nexus, HTC Desire.. iphone 1

That's a cracking price. But it's quite a lot to risk

That led, that battery life. Hmm

I'djust get phone iinsurance for it via bank. Would want this 10x more than nexus 4

Edit.. You got yours shipped.. Thought you had been to Canada. Do people have feedback scores on there?

I don't think the camera is that bad at all tbh - will post back this evening with some samples in different light conditions (apparently it is worst in low light).

Yeah got it shipped - that forum has a similar Trust/Feedback setup to OcUK MM. Drop me a mail if you want to discuss further...

Haha, yeah absolutely. One of the things that "broke the camels back" with the Nexus was a guy on here posting pictures of the screen vs. the GS3 and Note 2... I was just like "ewww!!" when I saw the LCD vs. OLED!!

Moto need to step up again - especially in Europe. Here's hoping some Google marketing dollars will set them on the right path...

.

Sorry for resurrecting an older thread.

Nexus, I've read the reviews and user quotes regards camera and audio for razr i. Camera I agree is pretty poor by the phones you compared too. Audio I find good. Certainly not much in it between the HTC One S and X I could compare to back then. There was an audible hiss between tracks or on quiet parts of a track noticeable when using earbuds. At some point it disappeared and no longer an issue on my razr i. Camera is poor though and terrible in low light though I'm not a big camera phone user. The One S camera blew the razr i out the water.

To Sumanji. Now you're 3 months in how are thing with your Razr HD? One thing I have noticed with the Razr i is that it is wearing well. I don't bother with a case or screen guard and only has a small scuff on a corner of chassis where it was dropped and skittered across some concrete. Considering the life it lives it's remarkably tidy :) I did use a packet of that Crystalusion stuff way back. I'm skeptical about it but it maybe does work?

my RAZR HD MAXX comes friday (possibly thursday) it is in the country on parcel force 24

so that will be 3 of us with one?
