Car stuck, any ideas??

I've had success before with shoving all manner of sticks/branches/rocks/litter under a wheel to get traction. Doesn't look pretty afterwards, but it gets the job done.

I think a bag of grit and a metal spade/shovel in the boot is a must if you live in somewhere difficult to get to.

hmm may be stupid but would sticking cat litter under wheel be a good idea? (thinking absorbing moisture etc)

might work, the only time i've ever been really desperate to get a stuck car moved I ripped the carpet out the boot and used that - not particularly recommended on a nice thick e39 bit of carpet though.

Most are clay or paper based, wet clay is slippy.

Surely in your part of the world there are wooden sticks?
(theory also works on sand, just in case you find yourself in Africa one day :))

Get the jack out, jack up under the rear diff till the wheel on the grass is higher than the driveway then get a couple of people to push it onto the drive. Better with a trolley jack as that will move with the car but the temp jack should work..

That sounds like a one way ticket to a damaged sill.

Explain to mum that the lawn will look FAR worse after you've tried to get it out, leave it until the weather improves, then get it pulled out ideally.

Mate of mine got badly injured helping somebody push a car off a steep drive on Friday in the snow, it slid back down & pinned him to the house. Nasty.

Those saying leave it until the weather improves... that lawn is only going to get more slippery when the thaw starts!

I agree with the idea to put on the handbrake a click or two to try and load up the spinning wheel combined with some old mats/carpet/whatever is going spare to aid grip.

Argh been driving around fine all weekend, then go my mums and got stuck on the drive. It's a steep drive and the back end slipped onto the lawn and its dug in 2-3 inches. I just want to leave it till the weather improves but she is moaning her bag off to get it shifted.

Any ideas on how to get it moving? Due to the diff the wheel on the drive is stationary and the one on the grass just spins. Car is inches from garage door so can't back it up any :p

Get a few friends around and bounce the car onto the drive. One on each wheel arch and one pushing down on the boot should do.

I think you are going to have to take up bear wrestling in order to recover all the man points lost as a result of this failure. Hopefully there were no women present to point and laugh at your handling of the situation :(
