If I install 4 x

http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-032-SY&groupid=701&catid=2331&subcat=4

2 of them will be on a 240 rad in push

2 of them will be on a 120 rad in push pull

would this be like sitting next to a 747 taking off if they were running @5400rpm. Obviously I am going to hook them up to a fan controller and run them slower when not on full load. So for the most part i'd imagine they woul dbe running sub 3000.

Reason I ask is that I am thinking of doing some benching and I want to really push my 2500K which is something I currently haven't tried as I know the H50 I have ain't up to the job

ok, I guessed that. but if its literally just for short bursts that I am running them full pelt and for the best part they are in the sub 3000rpm range then I guess it becomes bearable ?

The reason I am looking at these is I want the overhead of a few 1000 RPM in reserve for some hardcore action, while still being bale to use the system for normal daya to day gaming etc.

Haha! Short and sweet!

As for audible noise, how far will you be sitting from the tower, and will the tower be at floor level or on a desk? Generaly when a tower is sittintg on the floor by your legs you get an approx attenuation of 10dB.

If you can find out the noise level of one fan operating at full speed then you can do a quick calculation using this:

http://www.noisemeters.com/apps/db-calculator.asp

Hope that helps!

Haha, I love these fans. I was using a couple today and made a little hovercraft. These things move a lot of air!

Would I use them in my own system? no. The noise would become unbearable after a short amount of time.

As for hooking them to a fan controller, it may work however that all depends on how low the RPM can get before the fan stops
working due to lack of volts. My guess is that the fans would stop working at around ~2000 RPM. And at that speed Sythe GT's are still noisy.

If you do decide to purchase some however, show us what kind of temps that you can get ;)

Having 4 of those fans will be approx 56.5dB - So about as loud as a large office, and nearing the sound of traffic. You can bet it will be loud! The kind of thing you could only put up with if you had headphones on and were gaming - well in my opinion anyway!

Way too loud for 24/7 I use em on VRM areas of cards and boards when on -100 and lower cooling.

yes this is what I thought. I think the main issue I have is fear of not having enough air moving through the rads which might restrict the OC potential ? I have never really pushed my 2500K in my current setup using a H50. It has only seen moderate clocks of 4 to 4.2 ghz.

What I am interested in doing now is having a lot of cooling overhead so I can really try and push it to the limits, not for 24/7 but simply for benching to see how fast I really can get my current hardware to go. So far I fear it has been grossly under utilised, plus i want to upgrade my rig to watercooling for the experience/joy of simply doing it.

I don't actually need a super fast PC but I want to try it out mainly for fun and for the challenge of seeing just how much kit you can pack into a cm690ii while keeping a clean as possible interior.

Yes, one of them is incredibly loud.

Bought one last week just out of interest to see how good they are, and daaaaaaaam it shifts a lot of air.

With some modification, you can control the speed from what i've read, which i cba to do.

Actually you could just use a 4pin molex to 3 pin adapter...as i've just realised :D
