As the title suggests, i have RMA'd my 7850 (due to overheating) and I am rather against going for the MSI Twin Frozr again so am looking for a bang-for-buck alternative. I am not too bothered whether it is Nvidia or AMD so any suggestions?

how hot was it getting? i have two of those cards and max i see is 65-70c on a hot day

shame really as they are fantsatic cards

Idle would be anything from 58C to 62C. I have already spoke to a fella at overclockers who assured me that the card should not be getting that hot at idle.

You could always go for your own custom cooler on a reference style card, such as an Arctic Cooling Twin Turbo II. Alternatively:

YOUR BASKET
1 x HIS HD 7950 IceQ BOOST 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H795QC3G2M) £239.99
1 x HIS HD 7870 IceQ 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card (H787Q2G2M) £179.99
1 x Gigabyte ATI Radeon HD 7850 OC Windforce 2X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £169.99
Total : £601.97 (includes shipping : £10.00).

was it entering idle clocks of 300mhz core and 150mhz memory? chances are it wasnt hence the higher temps at idle

Nah. From my understanding, the fact that i am running 2 monitors prevents the card from entering proper idle mode. I have discussed this with a fella from OCuK who still said it was high regardless of what state it is in.

What does that offer me in comparison to the 7950? I apologize but i attribute less £££ to less power which i know is bad, but hasnt let me down yet.

My apologies. It is the 7950. The reason why i didnt select a Gigabyte is because my old card is a Gigabyte GTX460 and the OC on it is terrible. Will take into consideration though.

The gigabyte cards are one of the best this tim round, near silent and really cool!

MSI are having loads of crappy problems, they are decent cards but why bother when the gigabytes are better and around the same price or even cheaper? They also produce less noise and cool better! However the MSI does have a nice shroud wheres as the gigabyte is just fans.

+1

My apologies. It is the 7950.

I went through 3 MSI 7950 TF3 everyone was faulty. In the end I got a EVGA GTX680 and haven't been happier:D
