Would someone kindly confirm the correct thermal paste and pads for the stock (reference) cooler on an AMD Radeon HD 6970 graphics card please.

I've tried to contact HIS (manufacturer) and AMD without success.

Thank you

You want to purchase the oem paste and pads? I don't think they are available to buy.

I'm happy to use any product (or products) that either meet or exceed the manufacturer's recommended specifications (whatever they are).

I used MX-4 and some EK thermal pads(1mm) from a specialized watercooling shop(can't link - competitor)

Thanks, I have some MX-4 coming tomorrow so I'll give that a try.

I've seen the pads you mentioned at the same site, however there seems to be differing views regarding the thickness. It's either 0.5, 0.7 or 1.0 depending on who you talk to. The ones I took off were 1.0 but I'm not convinced they were original.

What's the correct way to apply the paste, a small dollop, or spread it?

Well one thing to note is that that it wouldn't matter if the pads were too thick, as the pressure from the screws holding the cooling plate down would squish the pads anyway.

With AMD GPU's i just pea-dot and let the cooler spread it

With nvidia gpu's i spread it with a bit of clean plastic to make a tin layer all over

I dont know if those are optimal, but they havent failed me yet :)

Very true, I'd just prefer to use pads that meet the recommended spec in the first place.

Thank you, I'll try the pea-dot method.
