Hello fellow geeks,

I need a new rig because I need to update my graphics card which means EVERYTHING else needs to be updated.

So here's my guide I'm trying to follow. I need a decent soundcard and I want the 650D case. I don't want to compromise on budget components for instance the Samsung 840 is the SSD to go for. However everything else I have no real clue about and just added them to my basket to get a rough idea on my budget. If you want to change it to a intel system feel free but reasons why are welcome and the same goes for gfx. I only pick what have done me well. If I can go for a lower PSU as well that would save some cash. I currently have a 640 Corsair and it's been fine.

As for cooling. I have no idea what to get there. I'm after a silent rig really but whenever I build a silent rig it's never silent. Fail.

Also don't worry if it's in the daily deal. I probably won't order this week anyway.

Total : £1,384.91 - Let's try and get this total down with cooling lol. I don't mind a bit over but this is close to £1,500 and I haven't even picked a mouse or monitor yet (not included in budget).

So that's a sketch if you like. SSD, soundcard and case are to stay I think.

If you sitch to an intel system you can get an intel i7 ivybridge and a motherboard for the sameprice as the ones you have picked or you could save about 100 quid and go for an i5 g-card wise....here is what you have and here is what i recommend

its about 132 pound difference atleast its something, it could be 232 if you got an i5 which is on par with the piledriver

also "i need a new graphics card which means everything else needs to be updated" that was the same line i threw my dad last year turned an amd tri core 6gb of ram and a 5770 into a 3770k 6970 and 8gbs of ram

haha well I could get just a new gfx card but it's cheaper to keep up with current tech than doing massive upgrades every 2 years. So I might as well do this one big upgrade and keep on making sure it's up to date unlike last time.

yep that was TOTALLY the idea when i asked my dad, not the excitement of getting new pc NOT AT ALL

I'M NEARLY 25 I WILL SPEND MY MONEY HOW I WANT! Haha. It was going to go towards a snowboarding trip but no friends so will save that for the end of the year.

haha nice choice on the new build then, if your looking to keep the piledriver then you could get a cheaper board, get the 7950 and the cheaper ram then you should save about 100-175

Ha!!! I'm 30 and I have that argument with myself. Trying to talk myself into an x79 build an add another 7970 and also change the fluid in the system to correlate with it all.

you've only changed the power supplies there is still only one g-card in both setups

He means that the single card setup will run a single card. The bigger psu in the second build will allow for xfire if he wants it. The 2nd motherboard is also suited better for xfire too.

seems a lot of it is personal pref, gfx cards, cpus etc

on the power supplies tho the hx+ is meant to be noisy and all these hybrids need to be put in the case fan up, but not a bad case for it

Yeah like I said I was just picking brands that I have had no problems with. Trying to read up on every brand and trying to keep up to date on the good stuff is a lot of work when it's been so long. Not to sound like I wouldn't do research. But for instance picking a motherboard... no clue lol. I like the Corsair PSUs because they are modular and are pretty nice and quiet but if the HX series is noisy I might pick something else. Actually right now I have a Corsair 640 I think, if I can stick with that then I will as it saves me £100.

i think a 640 would be fine, even for 2 7950's
atleast its been well tested :) blow the dust out of it and keep i say
wait till theres a nice deal on one or something

I personally would go for Seasonic
